Narrow Escape.—A workman at tbe Overfield
stone quarries, in Braintriin, mado a narrow escape
from death, from the going off of a blast a day or
two since. A fragment of the bursting rock tore tbe
fleshy part of his arm entirely from the bone At
last accounts he was doing well, though suffering

a few days past, several boats loaded with box cars
for the upper extension of the Lehigh Valley Rail
road, which is now, or nearly, completed from Tow
anda to Waverly. The slow coach will soon have to
give way to make room for the iron horse in that

The Tuukhanwck Seminary, which we briefly
noticed some weeks since, was opened yesterday, un
der very favorable auspices. Quite a number of stu

sion that there are parties about here who are en
gaged in putting them off on unsuspecting persons.
These counterfeits are so well executed aslo deceive
all those who are not experts. Better efuse all
tens on the Philadelphia Banks. There are coun
terfeit SiO notes on several of them.
Musical Review,—We have on our table the
November number of the V. S. Musical Review, a

some water barrels iu a wagon, covered witb carpets
or blankets, in front of George Stansbury's, about 3
miles up the creek, and ran away down a steep bank

as tbe broken tragments surely attest. Mr. John
Is laudbcrger and his son were the .occupants of the
carriage at ibe time of the accident—the son jump
ing from the wagon just in time to save being buried
down the precipitous bank. The father was thrown
from the wugoSfin the general smash up, and souie
w bat injured, though not dangerously. The horse,
in his Irigb t, cleared himself from the wagon, scaled
the fence, and was found in the field near the bouse
of Samuel Dickson.

Bridge Meeting.—At a meeting of citizens of
the county interested in the construction of the River
Bridge at this place, held at tbe Court House on
Monday evening* of last week, Hiram llitchc<ek,
Esq., of Forkston, wag called to the chair, and R. R
Little chosen Secretory.
The purpose of the meeting wag stated by R R.
Little, E.-q . who also addressed the meeting on tbe
importance of taking means to rebuild the bridge.
Samuel Stark in a few pertinent remarks urged
the necessity of speedy action, in order that tbe con
tracts for limber night be let at this the ost favor
able season fof getting it ; and at the same time ex
pressed a willingness to take one-third of all the
stock not now subscribed, if the citizens would not
take tbe whole of it,
On motion ol Win M. Piatt, a committee consist
ing of the following named persons, was appointed
to solicit subscriptions to the stock, with directions
to rej* rt at a meeting to be held in Tunkhannock on
Monday, December 2d :
