1 Bos’* Forget Youe Giels.— When I lived among the Choctaw Indians, (»»8 a traveler.) Ihelda consultation with'one? tf their chiefs respecting, the stages of their: togress in the arts of' civilized life, and amoi { other things be informed me that at their st« ft tbaymade a great mistake,' they only sent their ■ tyys to school. These boys came home i itelligent men, but they married uneducatedM nd uncivilized wives; and the uniform result yas the children were all like their mothers. Iho father soon lost all interest both in wife gad children. — And now, said he, if we would educate but one class of our children, we should choose the girls, tor when they be'oomo*ta','tbers, they ed ucate their sons. This is the p/nnt, and it is true, .i-No nation can become fully enlightened when mothers are not qualifiedfto discharge the duties of homework of education. Parents, give your daughters as well as jttur sons, the best education in your power. A Great Rascal.—Two y£jug lawyers. Arehy Brown and Thom?? Joped* were fond cf dropping into Mr. Smith’s parlor, and spend ing an hour or two with his only daughter, Mary.--Duo evening, when Brftwn had dis cussed almost every topic, Browh suddenly, in bis sweetest tones, struck out as follows: i - “Bo you think, Mary, you could leave father and mother, this pleasent homa,'With all its eas'e and comforts, and emigrant .to the Far West with a'yoang lawyer, who bad but little besides his profession to depend upon, • and with him search put.a home, '.w-ljob.it should be your joint duty tP beautify, make de lightful and happy like this t ” • < Bropping her head softly on- ins' shoulder, she whispered: “I think! coul I Arohy.’’ “ Well,” said he, “ there’s To- a Jones who’s going io emigrate, aud wants to *et a wife; I’ll mention it to him.” i ! It is slated to be a' rule of.lt Vr, in the far western territories that “ a tdwn is a place where whiskey is sold.” By means of this rule, the courts distinguish ‘ towns from those which exist only on,paper plans .of the land speculators. ‘ • ' BARGAINS FOR IiBIRTY BATS— HATING A MUCH LARGER Stock of Goods ..Desirabre, AT THIS SEASON OF THE' YEAR, X TASS THIS MSfSOD —OP— INCREASING .SALES, and turning them into Cash for ' SPUING PURCHASES.
