Mr. Wm. Bache, the general agent o! the company,'is prepared to take leases of an - ; property offered on fair and equitable terms. It may be proper to state that persons of sci ence and experience, who' hare examined the geological structure of our county, express a decided opinion that Petroleum will be found here in paying quantities. The geological for matiun is the Same as in Venango county. It is in the same relative position as to bituminous doid, as the oil • regions of western Pennsylva nia, Virginia and Kentucky. Whether the bi tuminous coal is formed from Petroleum, or Petroleum from bitominoue coal, or whether they have no such intimate relation, it ie evi dent that they have au intimate relation of lo cality. It may not yet have been determined with qertainty that Petroleum and salt have any near relation to each other ; but it is very evident that where Petroleum is found, salt water is also found, even if-the converse is not true. — The numerous salt springs of Tioga county would certainly lead to a reasonable suspicion that Petroleum might be found in their vicinity. We will not say from our own personal know ledge-that tbereare- oil springs in the county ; but if human testimony can he depended on, we.have certainly more than one or two. The county abounds in gas indications, jf burning gas is any indication of the presence of oil.— The boring at Farmington has been suspended' Tor the winter, because, the abundant emission of gas renders the prosecution of the work im ''practicable at this season of the year, as the i gas immediately ignites on coming in contact with fire. There are evident traces of horning gas on the territory beyond Pine Creek, On Stony Fork a boring was made for salt water, ] to a considerable depth,' more than forty years j ago ; and salt was made. From this orifice gas i is now continually bubbling up. Gas and salt springs are numerous on Babb’s Creetrand its branches, as well as oil springs; but for the latter we.cannot vouch, for we have never per sonally examined them. We commend this enterprise to all interested in the*prosperity of our county. Let every one take such an amount of stock as be thinks would be bis fair share as a means of testing the oil question. Let no man however get wild or visionary on the subject. “Oil on the brain” ie a very dangerous disease ; but the expendi ture of a reasonable sum to ascertain if there is “ oil under the surface,’’.would be a very commendable act. • ‘ " “ Laugher rßache, “ J.
