It ißctiAUGF.D.—Capt- W. W. White, who was arrest
ed in January last, has been tried by Coart Martial
in Washington city, and has been honorably dis
gorged, his dismissal in January revoked by the
President.
Several persons of this place, who were present at
the trial, all concurred in the opinion that the Capt.
would, after the investigation of the case, present as
clean a record as any otaer officer in the U. S. service.
There are but.few officers in the Provost Marshal’s
department, who excel Captain White as an officer.
He has, while in service at this place, exhibited a
great zeal in the discharge of his various and difficult
duties. Ho was particularly successful in apprehend
ing deserters, and display ed great energy of character
in all tbe duties of his office.
The Captain in his official - capacity was quite a fa
vorite in this place, and tbe citizens of all parties feci
much gratified in the annoucoment of his discharge
and restoration to duty.— Williamsport Bulletin.

■ In Wellsboro, on the 6th inst., EBENEZEB MUR
RAY, aged 96 years.
This venerable colored man and citizen came into
this”region of Pennsylvania, as long ago as tho year
1804. He had formerly lived in Delaware, where he
was in tho service of a man of the name of James
Murray. From this man he derived tho name of
Murray. The name.of his own father and mother was
Parker. A gentleman, uf the name of Wells bought
his service for five years from Murray, with the un
derstanding that‘at the expiration of that time he
should be free. When the five years were over, Mr.
Wells brought Ebenezer and his wile Hetty (who
still survives at an advanced age,) into this coun
ty, and .settled on what is now the Eastman farm
in Dclmar, the whole country being then an almost
unbroken forest. After three years, Mr. Wells went to
Philakelphia for the purpose of purchasing tho tract
of land where be had fixed bis dwelling, and while
there he fell a victim to tho yellow lever, His name
is now perpetuated in that of this place—Wellsboro.
•On the death of Mr. Wells, Ebenezer and his family
moved to. the spot where his own death occurred, lie
badbeeo an invalid for about seven years, and nearly
helpless for about threfe years; yet through his
sufferings, ho exhibited true Christian patience, and
humble, cheerful, manly spirit of a real servant
of the Most High. He was converted to a religious
c mrse of life when bo was in Delaware, through the
instrumentality of a colored preacher in the M. E*
Church. His many excellencies are truly worthy to
be remembered and imitated. • Com.

Question. What is the best kind of Wooden beam
Plow ?
Answer- TKo WLikD..PLOW, ...
Qnes. Wherein does it excel all others ?
Ans. In ease of draft, in being less liable to clog,
and in fact it excels in every particular.
Ques. Where is this Plow to be found ?
Ana. At the KNOXVILLE FOUNDRY, where
they are made, and at various agencies around the
country.
Ques. Aro there any other glows made at that
Foundry? <
Ans. Yes! Biles makes various kinds of wooden
and iron beam Plows, both for flat land and side bill,
and he keeps ahead of, all other establishments by
getting the BEST PATTERNS invented, without
regard to the COST, J .
Quos. Are Plows all that Bliss makes ?
Ans. By no means. Ho also makes HORSE
HOES; a superb article for Corn, Potatoes, Ac.
ROAD SCRAPERS that beat the world. Cast Cul
tivator Teeth of a very superior pattern. Shovel
Plow Castings for new lan i, and indeed almost every
thing that is ever made at a Foundry, from a Boot
Jack to a Steam Engine.
Ques. Would you then advise me to buy there?
Ans. Most certainly would. I, for besides making
the best KIND of every thing, Biles. makes those
that are the most DURABLE, and it is a common ex
pression where his Plows 'have been introduced, that
they last ns long as from two to four got at any other
shop; ho has always been ut the business from a
small boy and ought to know how it is done, and if
you iry his wares once, you will bo ready with mo to
tell all wanting anything in that line to go. send, or
in some other way procure them of* J, P. BILES, at

From the Bar. Leri, O. Beck* Pastor of the Baptist Cbiick

Philadelphia, • • • ♦ 1 have knowm
Hoofland’s German Bitters favorably for a number of years.
I have used them in my own fomily, and have been a>
pleased with their effects that 1 was induced to recotnmead
theta to many others, and know that they have operated la
a strikingly beneficial manner. I take great pleasure la
thns pnl'licly proclaiming this fact, and calling the atlentioa
of those afflicted with the diseases for which they are recom
mended, to these Bitters, knowing from eiperienoe tbit aiy
recommendation will be sustained. Ido this more cheer

and is not a rum drink.” Yours truly.
FroaJUT.J. Newton Brown, 2). D., Editor of tho Encycto*
pedia of Religious Knowledge,
Although not disposed to favor or recommend Patent Med*
iclnes In general, thr< ugh distrust of their ingredients and
effects, I yet know of no sufficient reasons why a man may
not testify to the benefits ha believes himself to bare re
ceived ftvm any simple preparation. In the hope that he may
thus contribute to the benefit of others.
I do this the more readily In regard to Hooflauds German
Bitters, prepared by Dr.C M. Jackson, of this city, becau**
I was prejudiced against them for many years, under tb»
impression that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture. I
am indebted to my friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for tha
removal of this prejudice by proper teats, and for encour
agement to try them, when suffering from great sod looar
continued debility. The use of three bottles of these Bit
ters, at the beginning of the present year, was followed
by evident relief, and restoration to a degree of bodily aod
mental vigor which I bad not felt for six months before, aod
had almost despaired of regaining. 1 therefore thank God
and my friend for directing me to the use of them.

it Will bo very beneficial to those who suffer from the abova
