POTTER, wife of Peleg Pottei, aged 68 years.
■ Sister Potter had been for nearly 50 years a faith
ful member of the Baptist Church, and by the grace
of God, shtj*.adorned her Christian profession most
nobly. The Bible was her source of moral light, and
Christ her dependence. emphatically a
large-hearted, liberal-minded Christian. In the death
of this exemplary and highly esteemed sister, a wide
breach been made in the family circle, in the
church and in the community. But while their loss
is deeply tnourned, there is this great consoling
thought, that, ** Precious in tho sight of .the Lord is
the death of his saints.” P. Reynolds.
HARRIET, wife of Charles B. Watrous, Feb. 22d,
1864, in Gaines, Tioga Co., Pa., in tho 27th year of
her age. ‘
The subject of this brief notice was horn in Caton,
Steuben county, N, Y. In the 2lst year of her ago,
she g ivo her heart to Christ, and united with the reg
ular Baptist Church, of which she remained a consis
tent and worthy member to the day of her death.
Wherever sister Watrous was known, either as rela*
five or friend, she was highly esteemed and ardently
loved. She was an intelligent, worthy Christian lady,
whom no church or community could spare, without
conscious loss. Her disease was typhoid fever, of
which she suffered much; but her triumphant faith
bore her patiently! through, and gave her closing days
a peace and joyfulness which it is the privilege of
but fewon earth to possess. • She has left the com
panion of her early choice and two small chjjdrcn,
together with a wide circle of relatives and friends,
to mourn their early loss.
May God sustain the bereaved, and enable them to
feel that the star that shone so brightly, has only
been translated to a cloudless sky, to mingle its
brightness with the' glory of the Eternal.
“The bright com is dropped in eternity’s ocean,
Too soon Called to yield life’s ephemeral breath;
That heart, once the home of each generous emotion,
Lies listless and cold in the bosom of death
, Yet if aught can give peace to the friends that survive her.
Or soothe those who mourn her too early doom,
*TU her virtues remembered—long, long to outlive her,
A nd shed then bright halo around the dark tomb.”

county, Pa., on the 18th of Jan., of chronic diarrhea,
A, M. SHEARDOWN, M. D., youngest son of Eev.
-Thomas S. Sheardown, aged 25 years.
The subject of the above notice was a, young man'
of and promising ability, having graduated with
the first honor in his profession and qualified himself
for future usefulness In life. He began tbe practice
ot medicine at Elmira, N. Y., where on the first call
for volunteers, he enlisted in tbe N, Y. service as a
private. The hardships were too great for him, and
1 after suffering some three months with the typhoid
fever he received his discharge and came to Tioga in
this county. There ho again entered upon the da-
B tics of his profession and won the esteem and friend
ship of uli who knew him. At the time of tho last
invasion of Pennsylvania ho received tho appoint
ment of assistant surgeon in tbe. U. S. Army, and
joined the 107th Regiment Pa. and while en
gaged in edring for the sick and wounded at the hard
fought battle of. Gettysburg, disease fastened itself
upon him, and after months spent in camp and hos
pital, he was transferred to tbe embrace of bis fend
parents, when, after lingering some three weeks, he
took an affectionate farewell of friends, and commit
ting himself to his Savior, he calmly and meekly
passed from the battle-field of life, as we trust, to
that world where wars and rumors of wars are heard
no more forever. Com.
