In Wellsboro, on the Ist inst., of typhoid pneumo
nia, MORTIMER BULLARD, son of Rev. Walter
Bullard, and brother of Massena and O. Bullard, aged
26 years, 9 months, and 7 days. .
This young- man was stricken .with the disease
which terminated his mortal career, on Tuesday, Jan.
26, less than a week before bis death. His illness
was brief/but very intense; all hia symptoms wore,
from tho time .of his prostration, of a marked and
alarming character; and it was quite evident to those
who visited him on Thursday, (among whom was tho
writer.) that his recovery was exceedingly improba
ble. He continued to decline under the malady which
had so' suddenly and so powetfully attacked him, till
Monday night, Feb. Ist, when near twelve o’clock, he
expired. We should judge from his expression in the
dying hour that ho use of his reason to
the last. i’
Mortimer came to Wellsboro about four years ago
last autumn ; and during that period, ho proved him
self kind, generous, and honest-hearted. Tho regard
felt for him by his young associates, was indicated in
the large gathering at his funeral, on Wednesday,
the Firo Company of tbo Borough, with whom he
had been connected, attended in their uniforms, and
assisted at tho burial.
His young wife, now cast down in the earliest grief
of widowhood, claims not only the .sympathetic word
and tear, but'also that sympathy which tells itself in
active kindness and truthful generosity. Left as she
is with her little daughter, she should not be allowed
to, sorrow without the solace of real benevolence.
God grant that such solace may not bo withheld from
her! . J. D. B.

Although not disposed to favor or recommend Patent Med

effects,! yet know of no sufficient reasons why <v man may
not testify to the benefits ho believes himself to have re

thus contribute to the benefit of others.
“ I do this the more readily in regard to Xlooflauds German
Bitters, prepared by Dr.C M, Jackson, of this city, because
I was prejudiced against them for many years, nndor the
impicssion that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture. I
am indebted to ray friend Robert Shoemaker, Esq., for the
removal of this prejudice by proper tests, and for encour
agement to try them, when suffering from great and Jong
continued debility. The use of three bottlea-of these Bit

by evident relief, and restoration to a degree of bodily and
