of Butlandare considerably excited over the discov

they claim to he an excellent substitute for the Chi
nese Tea. They call it the Mountain Tea, It grows
on the high lands, and attains a height of 18 inches.
The Rutland folkaare said to base gathered quanti

are mixing it with imported teas, to which it bears a
great resemblance. We give the story as we find it.
To the Patriotic.— Young man,* if you have an
odd or.sloo, surplus funds, we can advise you to
invest it i» the" Five-Twenty Government bonds. It
is the plain duty of every man to step forward to the
aid of the Government according as he may be able.
The investment is as good as gold, the interestbeing
paid semi-annually in gold, rate, six per cent. A. S..
Turner, Esq., Cashier of the Tioga Bank, informs
usithat the Bank will take orders for these bonds and
furhtih them to applicants.. The semi-annual interest
is payable on the Ist of May, proximo, and that will be
a good time to commence. Orders should be sent in
immediately.
The delay of Spring is causing considerable suff
ering among stock in all parts of, the county. Fod
der is very high, and hard to be procured at that.
We learn that cattle are dying from this cause in
some sections.
It occurs to us tbatjhis a fitting time to urge upon
farmers and steck-growera the policy' of.no longer
placing their entire dependence upon the hay-crop
for fodder. An acre of carrots, planted in prepared
ground, will, ordinarily, pretty much winter twenty
obws with a very little hoy for ruminating purposes.’
It is rather more trouble to raise an acre of carrots
that an acre of grass; but to raise as much nutriment
in hay, per acre, would require much more labor and
care than the crop of carrots. Probably some far
mers do, at present, piece out their hay with roots of
various kinds ; and the stock of such, if any, will
present a marked and favorable contrast compared
with those fed on hay only. *
