Albert Salisbury, went from Tioga County, Pennsyl vania, to Arkansas, and engaged in school teaching. Two years ago,Jie--married a young lady, a Miss Dicky, from near Bloomington, 111., who had also been teaching in the vicinity of Pine Bluff, .in a plan ter’s family. Mr. Salisbury bad bought a small farm above'Pikeville, and laboring on it during his leisure hours, had created a beautiful home, and they lived in a nice style. Both were well liked by their neighbors previous to the war. Of course, his school was bro ken up ; qf course he was ordered to leave. It is not an en>y matter to drive a native of Northern Penn sylvania from his own farm. Last August the rebels approached bis house through acorn field, and shot at him while bo was eating his dinner. They shot through' the back-door, he ran out of the front door and gained the woods. lie was wounded"~tn" his shoulder. To wards midnight be come back. His wife lay dead on the bed; she neither bnd been sbot or beaten. When last I saw him, he was a acout bound for Arkansas with tbe greqt expedition.” —Does any reader know from what port of this County, Mr. Salisbury emigrated? ‘Fire in Charleston.—This morning (Saturday) about 2 o'clock, our citizens were awakened from their peaceful slumbers by tbe cry of fire. We all started for.the scene of conflagration; some on foot, some bare foot, and some on horseback. Wo finally ar rived at Stilmnn Frost’s, arid found his smoke house (that is, a hollow log,) in flames; his bams, Ac., de stroyed. From the smoke house, the fire bad caught in a pile of wood of some forty or fifty cords, nod it required a strenuous effort to keep it from the house. Mr. Frost lost one hundred lbs. of meat, nnd ten cords of wood. Cheap enough. We see in almost ever pa per we.dake up, fire, fire, and still men see a hole in the stove pipe, a crack in the stove or chimney, and •go to bed and sleep as soundly ns if all was well, un till they are aroused by the roar of fire or the «uffoca- of smoke—the house is consumed. Cili zenabave been started by the cry of fire! Theygtfth er ground the burning their lives and health, and really feel sorry providence of God, Neighbor has been stript of house and home, when, if ho had repaired his stove pipe or chim ney, Providence would not have destroyed his house. Again, how many lake up arhes set them down full of ffre, in the wood shed adjoining the hou-e.— There is no doubt but that eight.tenlhs- of the fires, are through carelessness, or neglect. But a word to the wise, is sufficient. * Citizen.
