GROVER & BAKER’S
SEWING MACHINES,
FOR FAMILY AND MANUFACTURING USE,
495 BROADWAY, FEW TO UK.
Agencies in'all the principal Cities aml'Tomxa in the
The Grover and Baker £>i*wiug Machine Company are now
maoaffictariog, and have on exhibition at their different
salesroom*, machines making-the Shuttle or Lock-Stitch, of
the same patterns ami at the same prices as their celebrated
Grover and Baker Stitch Machines, thus affording the public
the advantage of comparing the stitches of the two leading
machines and exercMng theirown judgment as to thoir re
spective merits. This is the only company that manufacture
both kinds and therefore tHu only one that can
ofhr this privilege to the purchaser.
** We speak from experience when wesay that, after having
tried all thojprlncipal Sewing Machine*. we must accord to
tliflt of Grover and Bnktr thopre eminence. Thoseindispen*
«a»de features of sewing, strength, uniformity andehisticity,
nil of which are jrought out in this inoomparable Invention,
m.'.ke it the;first fiewipg machine in the country. Others
have their goed points, hut this combines all, and possesses
rveiy characteristic necessary to most desirable. ’* —
y. Y. Christian Advocate and Journal.
1 Merit vs. Pcetexce.—Wc,perceive that the Grover and
Baker Sewing Machine is every day growing more and
in fa> or, both for manufacturing and family purposes —but
especially as adapted to all the requirements of family use.
Other machines, by dint of brazen puffery a& conniving with
committees at annual fairs, have been thrust forward Into
the first place ; but they are fast losing this undented posi
tion. The rfsal merits of the Grover and Baker Machine are
beginning to be known in a practical way. and daily Is the
demand for them increasing, while the demand for heretofore
better known, but inferior machines, is proportionally de
creasing. So it turns out In this, as jn many othei instances,
that‘honesty is the beat policy,’and the right, in the end
comes uppermost.
“ A trial -of over two years enables us to say with the great?
cst confidence that there is po better machine foi general
family use than Grover and Baker’s Rowing Machine Co. It
makes a beautiful elastic scam that doe? not rip with wear or
washing, runs almost noiselessly, is plain, simple, easy to
work, and not liable to"get out of repairs fastens the ends of
its own thrend, and uses threads and Silks directly from the
spools on which they are bought."—JY. 1". Leader.
Grover aju) Balter’* Machines’ work in thelrpoculiar stitch,
and fabrics put together by it. may wear and drip to pieces
from original weakness or hard usage, but come apart or give
wav at the seams, they can not; they will bold together
when the or calico around them hangs in rags and tat*
tefs.—2V! K, Daily News.
» Thbpoirits ire conceive most neemary and important to
meet the wide range of requirements In a machine for family
sewing,,we hnd more fully combined in the Grover and Ba
ker, vjzf, extent of capacity, simplicity of construction, east*
of management, advantage of using thread from two spools
without re-tvindlng, strength of work, elasticity, durability
and regularity of stitch, and' quietness of movement, We
therefore mark award to the Grover and Baker.” —Report of
'jennestee Sate Fair of 1800—oZao of St. Louis Sate Fuir of
1860.
