Charles O. Etas of Tioga
Village would respecliully call the attention of the
‘public to the IblJowingadvcrtiseraent. “Man wanbs
bUlJilllc here below nor wants thaDlitllc long” is
on'old raying and perhaps true to a certain extents
Hal it seems to me that in this lime of general
suspension > and panic* everything is lendingloa
reversion of lime-honored sayings, and everybody
wants a little? more still. The farmers (and they
really ought to have as much as anybody, for they
arc to our country what a main spring is to a watch,)
wants a little more for their wheat, buckwheat, rye,
corn, oat*, potatoes, &c.» than the purcfu>cr feels
able and willing to pay. The merchant wants a
little more fur his Flour, Pork, Salt, Dry Gauds,
Hooti &, Shoes, Hats & Caps, Hardware, Crockery
and ten thousand little tilings he has to sell than
the farmer thinks he ought to pay.
At this present lime it seems to he conceded by
nil that the] cash value of.good wheat is SI per
bushel; buckwheat, 2 to 2-6; corn 3-6 to 4—B;
oats, 2 to 2-6; butter, 14 to 1G ’cents. Now to
equalise the matter and make it satisfactory on both
sudes, I want and will agree to take from every
farmer of Tioga county, all the wheat I can get

cape ol Good Hope have long used this articie as a
remedy in a variety of diseases. From them the
medicine was borrowed by the English and Dutch
physicians residing there and by their recommend
ation it was soon employed in Europe. In process
of time this medicine has come into general use,
and is highly spoken of by the best medical writers!
Physicians recommend it mostly for complaints of
the urinary organs, such as gravel, a morbid irrita
tion of the bladder and urethra, retention of urine,
also incontinence of urine from want of tone in the
urinary organs. It cools the unnatural beat and
relieves pain; and in many cases of long standing
il has been effectual when other valuable medicines

AYER’S CATHARTIC FILLS,
THE sciences of Chemistry and Medicine have been taxed
their utmost to produce this best, most perfect purgative
w hich is known to man. Innumerable proofs arc thowu that
these Pills have virtues which surpass in excellence the ordi
nary medicines, and that they win unprecedentedly upon the
esteem of all men. They are e.ifc and pleasant to take, but
powerful to cure. Their ponntiMtingpropcrtkft stimulate the
vital activities ofthe body, remove the obstructions of. its
organs, purify the blood, and expel disease. They purge out
the foul humors which breed and grow distemper, simulate
sluggish or disordered organs into tlmir natural action, and
impart healthy tone with strength to the wholefcystem. Not
only do they cure the every-day complaints of every body,
but also formidable ami dangerous diseases that ha%*e baffled
the best of human skill. While they produce powerful effects
they are at the same time, iu diminished doses, the safest and
best physic than can be employed for children. Being sugar
coated, they are pleasant to take: and being purely vegetable
are free fronrnny risk of harm. Cures have Gecu made which
surpass belief were they not substantiated by men of such
exalted position and character as to forbid the suspicion of
untruth. Jinny eminent clergymen and physician* have lent
their names to certify to the publia the reliability of my rem
edies, while others have sent me the assurance of their con
viction that my Preparations contribute immensely to the re
lief of my afflicted, suffering feflow-mon.

an agent's store, (H. A. Lantz,) made double thickness, (differ

Report of the Committee appointed to superintend
the Burning of the Iron tiofe* t -at Reading, Feb,
27, 1857. j / }
“The undersigned, members of the committee, do
respectfully report, that we saw'the two Safes origi
nally agreed upon by Parrels Averring and Evans
& Watson, placed side by side in a larnace, viz:
The Safe in use by the Paymaster; of the Philadel- J
phia and Reading Railroad Company, in his office
at Reading, manufactured by Parrels & Herring,.
and the safe in use by H, A. Lanlz, in his store,.
manufactured by Evans &, Watsop, andpotin books
and papers precisely alike. j 1
Thu fire was started at A, M., and
kepi up until four cords of green liickory, two cords
dry oak and half chestnut top wood were entirely
consumed, the whole under the, superintendence of
the subscribers, members of the Committee. The ,
Safes were then cooled off with water, after which ,
they were opened and the boohs,[and papers taken
out by the Committee and sent to Q. A. Lantz's
store for public examination, after they were first
i examined and marked by the Committee. The
books and papers taken from the Safe manufactured
by Evans fit. Watson were but slightly affected by
the intense heat, while those taken from the Safe
manufactured by Parrels & Herring, were in our
judgment, damaged fully fifteen per cent more than
those taken from Evans & Watsop f s Safe.
We believe the above lo have been a fair and im
partial trial of Ibe respective qualities of both Safes.
