M., and kept up until four cords bf'grecn hickory, two cords* dry oak and half chestnut ,'lop wood were entirely consumed, the whole under the superintendence of the subscribers, members of the Committee. The Safes were then cooled off witli water, after which they were opened and thef. books and papers taken out by the Committee and sent to U. A. Lantz’s store for public examination, aflcr they were first examined and marked by the Committee. The books and papers taken from the Safe manufactured by Evans &c Watson were but slightly affected by the intense heat, while lliosc taken from the Safe manufactured by Parrels!; Sc Herring, were in our judgment, damaged fully fifteen per cent more than those taken from Evans Si Watson’s Safe.
