THE RECENT TRIALS at Reading have endorsed tho current of public opinion, and confirmed the verdict of more than 200 accidental fires, proving conclusively that is the ONLY SAFE that will not burn. Extract from the’Committee's Re port os the Trial of Iron Safes at Reading „ . “On the2Gth of February all the members of the committee met to witness the Safes and books and papers, (placed in them) and wero perfectly satisfied that all was right. The day following} the burning took place, under the superintend ence of the Committee. After a fair and Impartial burning for fire hours, the Safe of Messrs Evans & .Watson was first opened, the Safe being on fire inside, and the contents par tially consumed, while the contents in the Safe of Messrs Farrels & Herring were in good condition, and no fire inside.” Beading, March 2,1857. Report of (tie Committee appointed to superintend the Burning of the Iron Safe*l at Beading , Feb. 27, 1857. - . . | “The undersigned, members of the coromi(tee*do respectfully report, that we saw the two Safes origi. nnlly agreed upon by Parrels & Herring and Evans & Watson, placed side by side in a furnace, viz: The Safe in use by the Paymaster of the PhiladeU phia and Reading Railroad Company, in his office at Reading, manufactured by Parrels & Herring, and the safe in ose by H. A. Lanlz, in his store, manufactured by Evans & WaUbn,and polio books and papers precisely alike. '• The fire was started at 8£ o'clock, A. M., and kept up until four cords of greed hickory, two cords dry oak and half chestnut top wood were entirely consumed, the whole under tbelsuperinteodence of the subscribers, members of the Committee. The Safes were then cooled off witlij water, after which they were opened and the books and papers taken out by the Committee and sent to H. A. La oil’s store for public examination, dflcr they were first examined and marked by the Committee. The books and papers taken from the Safe manufactured by Evans & Watson were but ’slightly affected by the intense heat, while those taken from the- Safe, manufactured by Parrels & Herring, were in our judgment, damaged folly fifteen per cent mote than those taken from Evans &. I TO THOSE WHO WANT FARMS A FARM IVITMIW THE REACH OF EVERY MAW. TIIK RnxsWAY FARM COMPANY ~bas~made arrange ments by which «JI who desire to settle or- purchase a home can do so. ; Tho Farms consist of the best Timwtbne soil of the most superior quality for farming, in a rapidly improving place, into which an extensive emigration, is now pouring. The property is located in Elk County, Pennsylvania, in the midst of a thriving population of 6ome:10,000. The climate is per fectly healthy, and tho terrible plague of the west fever is unknown.- It also has an abundance of the best quality of 1 Coal and Iron. The price to buy it out is from $3 to $2O per sere, payable by instalments, to pe located at the time of pur chasing, or a share of 25 acres entitling to locate the same for $3OO, payable $6 per month nz. Vl}/, acres payable $4 per month. Discount for every sum! of $lOO and under, paid in advance, a discount of 5 per cent, will be allowed, and for over $lOO a discount of 10 per cent. In considering the advantages’of emigrating to this locality the following are presented: j First —The soil is a rich limestone, capable of raising the heaviest crops, owing to which (this settlement has attained its present great prosperity. Second— lt is the centre of the groat North West Coal Ba sin, and is destined soon to become one of the greatest busi ness places in the State. It will supply the great Lake mar ket, (according to population add travel tho greatest in the Union.) It has five workable veins of tho best Bituminous Coal* amounting in the ogregatc to over 22 feet, which makes 22,000 tons of coal under each acre. This will make the land of incs'fcraablc value. \ The eminent state geologist Ur. Chas.T. Jackson of Boston, has made a geologucaj survey of the land, and analysed the coal, the iron ore and the limestone. This report together will*-maps will bo furnished to inquirers. ITiinf —Three railroads axe laid out through this property. TboSunbnry and Erie Railroad gives ns a market for oar coal to the lakes—it runs from End to Philadelphia. A large part Of this road has been flnishetVnnd is now in running order. A heavy* force is now working from Brio towards our land in the western direction, the means for the completion of winch has been raised—it will soonf be finished. Tho Alleghany Valley Railroad connects us l»|th Now York, Boston and Pitta- | burg. The Venango Road connects ns with the West. There are already good Turnpike Roads running through this property, various other rujads have been opened to accom mo date the emigration and settlement which bus already ta ken place. - f There Is no opportunity equal to it now offered to tho man who wants to provide himself a home in an easy way, and mako a settlement where he can live in prosperity and inde pendence in a climate PERFjqCTLY HEALTHY. No case of the fever ever having been known to occur in this Settlement. It is not like going to the backwoods of the West, among perhaps Intolerant people, where there is no so ciety, churches, or schools, where the priro-of land is high, and where the emigrant, after being used to the healthiest cli mate in the world, has to endure sickness and pain, and per haps ruins his health and that of his family. But here is a thriving settlement having three towns, containing churches, schools, hotels, stores, saw. mills, grist mills, and everything desired. There is a cash market at hand. The lumber trade last year amounted to over hundred million feet of lum ber. In a short tiroes, owing to the coal, it will become still more valuable, os a number of Iron works and manufactories 1 will soon bo started; they are at present starting them ex tensively at Warren, Even for those who do not wish to go there, tho payments are such, that they can easily buy a farm to save theirrising Itoiilics from want in the future, or to gam a competence by tho rise which will take place in the value of lands.
