    SiNootwi Pouticai, WAGKR.-Major Ben.
Parley Poore, the late candidate for Congress,
in ibe Sixth District of Massachusetts, arrived
in the city of Boston on Friday afternoon,
with his wheelbarrow and barrel of apples,
which he had wheeled alt the way from New
buryporl, a distance of thirty-six miles, in
two and a halfdays. The job was in fulfil
ment of a bet with Col. Burbank, the Fremont
State Senator elect, that Filmore would get
more votes in Massachusetts than Fremont.
The Major, wheeling histapplea, was accom
panied up State street ijbout two o’clock by
the Filmore Clubs of Boston and Charleston,
a military company, and a mounted caval
cade of citizens. The novelty of the per
formance attracted many thousands of the
people, and the Major waa.greeted with tre
mendous and tumultuous applause from all
sides. He delivered the apples to Col. Bur
bank on the steps of (be Tremonl House,
when both gentlemen delivered congratula
tory speeches, each mounted on (bo barrel.
Ten thousand people were present, —Boston

The Mormons. —The Saints of Greet Salt
Lake have issused a proclamation to the faith
ful, endorsing the Buchanan Democracy, and
repudiating the Republican party. They say :
‘•The Democratic party is the instrument, in
God’s hood, by which is to be effected our
recognition as a sovereign Stale, with the do
mestic institutions of Slavery and Polygamy,
as established by the patriarchs and prophets
of old, under divine authority, and renewed
to the saints, of latter days, through God's
chosen rulers and prophets." Then after
Quoting that excellent platform of the Repub
lican party, which slates that it “is the right
and duty of Congress to prohibit in the Ter
ritories those twin reiics of barbarism, —
Polygamy and Slavery,” the saints add :
“This is a blow aimed directly at our rights
ns citizens of one of the Territories, at our
sacred institutions and holy religion.”

W. WITHERS, Master, W. H.
We thought it wag one of the beneficent
results of me peculiar institution, that “work
houses" were not needed, —that slaves were
never suffered tocome upon the town or county
for support, but that they were always pro
vided lot, with patriarchal care by their own
era. Is mere any mistake about this matter f
—A’, Y. Time:
A Kansas correspondent of the Cin. Gaz.
savs Gov. Geary owns a large number of
negroes in Virginia where he has an exten
sive iron eslabhstimenl worked by slaves.—
He told a Free State man on whom he wished
to make a good impression, last week, that
ne meant to sell his slaves in Virginia ; but
Oe sought to gain me good opinion of the
Free Stale men at Washington, before his ap
pomtment, by announcing the same thing to
them. Yet he still holds the slaves, and no
body doub's that he will continue to do so,
unless Buchanan's election should so enhance
tne price of Negroes in Virginia that he
should find rt profitable “to realize.”
