TEM PETROLEUM, SALT, IRON AND COAL OF HOCKING VALLEY, ATHENS COTATY, eino.—The Hocking Valley lies on the , western border of tue great Apalchian mineral basin, which extends from north ern Pennsylvania, seven hundred and twenty miles to Central Alabama, and comprises an area cf about 100,0001 square miles. It is from this basin, the richest, perhaps, in the world, that rennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, 'Tennessee and Alabama draw their im mense supplies of coal, iron, salt and pe troleum. While throughout the vast ex tent, these four staple minerals are found in variable quantities, and not mitre qftently grouped together, it is rare that any one locality produces them all in large quntities, yet in the Hocking Val ley, yea, within a radius of twenty miles from the county seat of Athens county, are to be found inexhaustible stores of coal, salt, iron and oil. General McClellan, it is reported will sail for Europe in 'February; his wife ilind child will accompany him. ''Bur leigh" the Boston Journal's correspon dent in New York makes the following statement in reference to the General's movements: A company of gentlemen this city have fitted uq a fast sailing clippe ship in elegant style, placed on boardr every conceivable luxury, manned her com pletely with a fine crew, bat her in charge of one of the ablest captains, and tendered her to Gen. Georg:: B. Mc- Clellan for one year, to sail where he will with his family and friends —the en tire expenses to be borne by the gentle men. This is the New York style of doing thing's. lie that governs his passions does more than he who commands armies.— Socrates, being one day offended with Ins servant, said, "I would beat you if were not angry." serA man's best fortune—or his worst- 7 4s a wife. s-Words cannot heal the wounds that words can make. N... •e 4. - Army Ape Drgs !!! I T 1, decay. The scrofulono contamination is variously caused by memorial disease, low living, disordered digestion from unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. Whatever be its origin, it is hereditary in the 'constitution, descending "from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation ; " indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, "I will visit the iniqui tits of the fathers upon their children." The diseases which it originates take various names, according to the organs it attacks. In the lungs, Scrofula in produces tubercles, and finally Consumption ; the glands, swellings which suppurate and become ulcerous sores ; in the stomach and bowels, derangements which pro duce indigestion, dyspepsia, and liver com plaints; on the skin, eruptive and cutaneous affections. These all having the same origin, require the same remedy, viz. purification and invigoration of the blood. Purify the blood, and these dangerous distempers leave you. With feeble, foul, or corrupted blood, von can not have health ; with that "life of the flesh" healthy, you cannot have scrofulous disease. is compounded from the most effectual anti dotes that medical science has discovered for this afflicting distemper, and for the cure of the disorders it entails. That it is far superior to any other remedy yet devised, is known by all who have given it a trial. That it does com bine virtues truly extraordinary in their effect upon this class of complaints, is indisputably proven by the great multitude of publicly known and, remarkable cures it has made of the following diseases : King's Evil or Glandular Swellings, Tumors, Erup tions, Pimples, Blotches and Sores, sipelas, Rose or St. Anthony's Pire,ll Rheum, Scald Head, Coughs from tu berculous deposits in the lungs, White Swellings, Debility, Dropsy, Neuralgia, Dyspepsia or Indigestion, Syphilis and Syphilitic Infections, Mercurial Diseases, Female Weaknesses, and, indeed, the whole aeries of complaints that arise from impurity of the blood. Minute reports of individual eases may be found in Atun's AMERICAN ALMANAC, which is furnished to the druggists for gratuitous distribution, wherein may be learned the directions for its use, and some of the remarkable cures which it has made when all other remedies had failed to afford relief. Those cases are purposely taken from all sec tions of the country, in order that every reader May have access to some one who can speak to him of its benefits from personal experience. Scrofula depresses the vital energies, and thus leaves its victims far more subject to disease and its fatal results than are healthy constitu tions. Hence it tends to shorten, and does greatly shorten, the average duration of human life. The vast importance of these considera tions has led us to spend years in perfecting a remedy which is adequate to its cure. 1 This we now offer to the public under the name of AYER'S SARSAPARILLA, although it is com posed of ingredients, some of which exceed the best of Sarsaparilla in alterative power. By its aid you may protect yourself from the suffer ing and danger of these disorders. Purge out the foul corruptions that rot and fester in the blood ; purge out the causes of disease, and vigorous health will follow. By its peculiar virtues this remedy stimulates the vital func tions, and thus expels the distempers which lurk within the system or burst out on any part of it. We know the public have been deceived by many compounds of Sarsaparilla, that promised much and did nothing; but they will neither be deceived nor disappointed in this. Its virtues have been proven by abundant trial, and there remains no question of its surpassing excellence for the cure of the afflicting diseases it is in tended to reach. Although under the same name, it is a very different medicine from any other which has been before the people, and is far more effectual than any other which has ever been available to them. CHERRY PECTORAL ; The World's Great -Remedy for Coughs, Colds, Incipient Con sumption, and for the relief of Consumptive patients in advanced stages of thb disease. This has been so long used and so naiver• sally known, that we need do no more than assure the public that its quality is kept up to the best it ever has been, and that it may be relied on to do all it has ever done.
