A countryman walked into the office
of Lawyer Barns one 414% and began
his .apMlication-,-
"Barns,, I have-come to get your ad
vice in a ease that is giving me some
-trouble."
"Well -what is the:matter t"
:‘-‘..Suppose, -now," said the client,
"that a man had one spring of water on
his land, and his neighbor living below
should build a dam across the creek.
through both fame, and it was to back
the water up into the other man's spring,
.what augOat to be deriel"
'Sue him, sir, stkolim, by all means,"
said the lawyer, who always became
• exciled in proportion to the aggravation
of his clients. "You can recover heavy
damages, sir, and the law will make
him pay well for it. Just give me. the
„case, and bring _the money from
Shim ; 'spd if he hasn't a great deal of
.propeFty,,it will break him up, sir."
-'But . st=op, Barns," cried the terrified
applictmtfor legal advice, "it's I that
have, built the dam, and it's neighbor
.gortes that -owns the spring, and he
threatens to sue me."
!ligekeen lawyer hesitated a moment
Wore he tacked his ship, and kept pn.
well, sir, you say you built a
"churl across that creek. What sort of a
dam was it; sir !"
"It was a mill-dam."
"A mill-dam for grinding grain, was
.it 1"
"Yes, it was just that."
"And it is a good neighborhood mill,
is it ?"
So it is, sir, aTi you will say so."
. ."And all your neighbors bring their
grain to be ground, do they ?"
• "Yes, sir, all but Jones."
"Then it is a great public e,onveni
ence, is it not V'
, tsTo be sure it is. I would not have
'built it but for that. It is so far supe
rior to any other mill, Sir."
"And now," said the old lawyer,
-"you tell me that ,that man Jones is
oomplaining just because the water
Qom the dam happens to back up into
his little spring, and he is now threat
ening to sue you. Well, all I have to.
say is, to let him sue, and he'll rue the
:day as sure as my name is Barns."
Mir Thousands of acres of soil are

but one of hundreds engaged in this
branch of horticulture. The atrnos

with fragrance that a person is made
aware of his approach 'to them by the
odors which greet him miles away.
Already in America hundreds of acres

Nervous Centres, never dream of the CAVE of their
several afflictions. They treat results as it tiey were
causes; and so no relief is found.
WIIAT IS THE CAUSE OF THESE DISEASES
very frequently? There is the secret—solitary self
abuse, practiced by thousands. Commenced when
boys, at school or elsewhere, it is kept up even during
young manhimd, producing mental and physical pros
tration. If continued, these diseases, and even mad
imp aye the result. If the victim lie conscious of the
cause of his decay, and quit it, lie sutlers under those
terrible nocturnal and involuntary emissions which
weaken and shame him, till life heroines grievous.—
Titus place , between certain decay and prematUr e
death and horrible suffering, the wretched victim rush
es to SELF•DESTRUCrION. or sinks to an untimely
grave. If he emancipates himself before the practice
has done its worst and sitters matrimony, his marriage
is usfruitilili and his sei s e tells him that this is paused
by Ma early follies.
SOFFERING YOUNG MEN,
