My Mother's Home.
Jh ! carry me back to my native shore,
For my heart is sad and lone ;
And ere I die, let me gaze once more
On my mother's cottage home;
Oh, bear me back to the quiet shade
Of the well-known trystring tree
To the babbling stream and sunny. glade,
The haunts of my childhood's glee.
fly spirit pines for my mother's love,
And the grasp of her dear right hand;
And to feel once more affection's kiss,
From the joyous household band ;
When bear me back to my native shoro,
For my heart is sad and lone,
And ere I die let me gaze once more
On my mother's cottage home.
The Last Slave in Pennsylvania.
gannah Kelley, believed to be the
Mast slave in Pennsylvania., died in Cross
Creek township, Washington county,
on the 15th ult., at the advanced age
of 103 years. She was owned by John
Gardner, deceased, formerly of Jeffer
&au township, but, for a number of
years, had boarded with her free col
ored relatives in Cross Creek township.
,Notwithstanding her great age, she was
remarkably healthy, and gave fair
promise of out-living her grand chil
dren, had she not been brought to her
death by a horrible accident. Rising
early on New Year's morning, she was
warming herself by a very large fire at
the end of a coal scaffold, close by her
house, and in some way caught fire,
and was so _terribly burnt before assist
anse could be given that she died, as
recorded above.
