Recipe for•Soatlet Fever. Methodist preachers, who keep thei r eyes open as they go through. the world, have very fine opportunities to become segnamted with the nature and treat ment of human disease in its various forms. They are much in sick rooms, and the society of physicians. They are good observers. And not unfrequently do their opportunities furnish them with information of great importance to in valids. These reflections are snggested by a note from Rev. W. F. Wilson, of Painesville, Ohio, coutaining a receipt for the cure of scarlet sever. Take ou, country through one year with anotherr ho disease is so fatal as this among chil dren. Sometimes it baffles the skill of the most eminent physicians, and bids defiance to the most potant medicines. Last year it appeared in malignant form in Painesville. Its victims were numer- CiliS, and many hearth-stones were shad owed and hearts made desolate, After some time the recipe given below was ' highly recommended by some who had seen its virtues tested. It was tried and Proved a great success. This was the ease hi many familes. The maladay at length appeared in the family of Bro. Wilson, and his observation confirms the above testimony to the efficacy of the remedy. Ile sends us the recipe for insertion. It runs as follows : "Take one tablespoonful of spirits turpentine, half a spoonful of oil of juniper, and one tea spoonful oil of cloves ; mix half a pint of West India molasses with one pint of best quality of West India rum ; simmer it together until all is mixed, in a new tin or bright pewter basin, cover edorer with a tin or pewter plate, so as to keep the steam from catching fire.— Give to al adult half a table spoonful once an hour, (children hi proportion) until the canker comes off the throat— and that will not be long. Then dilute it with tea made of saffron and catnip, equal quanities, with half the amount of snake root added. This tea should be taken freely by the patient from the first. The above recipe is from elder Rider." Christian Advocate. How to Thaw Frozen flesh The New York Post says frozen flesh ought never to be rubbed. The juices of the flesh tissues, when frozen in their minute sacs or cells, at once become in each one of these enclosures, crystals,• having a large number of angles and sharp points; and hence rubbing the flesh causes Ahem to cut or tear their Way through the tissues; so that when it is thawed the structure of the muscle is more or less destroyed. The proper mode of treatment is this :—When any part of the body is frozen, it should be kept perfectly quiet till it is thawed out, which *should be done as promptly as possible- As freezing takes place from the surface inwardly, so thawing should be in the inverse order, from the inside outwardly. The thawing out of a portion of flesh without, at the same time, putting the blood from the heart into circulation through it, produces mortification; but by keeping the more external parts still eongealed till the internal heat and the extaraal blood gradually soften the more interior parts, and produce circulation of the Mood as fast as the thawing takes Owe, most of these dangers are obviated. If the snow which is applied be colder than the frozen flesh, it will still further abstract the heat and freeze it wose than before. But if the snow is of the same temperature, it will keep the flesh from thawing till the heat from the rest of the body shall have affected it, thus prevent ing gangrene. Water, in which snow or lee had been placed, so as to keep its temperature at thirty-two degree Fah renheit, • is probably better than snow.
