[Those who 'are reading the new and
deeply interesting work, entitled ".Madge,
or Night and Morning," will be pleased to
know that the following beautiful lines
were written by the author of the work
alluded to.j
Only four—just four abort years
Since be came to me,
Nestling in my heart and arms,
Oh so tenderly!
Now the rain falls on his grave,
Sighing wearily.
Only four—how I listened
For Lis busy feet,
Pattering softly down the stair,
"Papa home" to meet—
Never to a mother's hear,
Was a sound more sweet.
Only four—my precious boy,
With his honest eyes
Always lookipg luta mine
With a sweet surprise.
Now with faded autumn leaves
Little Willie Use.
Little Willie, just begianiug.
In a winsome way ;
To repeat hie "blow lay me,"
At the close of day ;
Tears come faster now than words
When I kneel to pray.
Only these—an empty crib,
, 444, iimint °hair,
*ith a half-worn piir of shoes,
4n4 s curl of hair,
Golden with the sunshine falling
On his head so fair.
Ouly these are ).eft me now,
Au 4 the house is still;
Everything seems asking for him,
And my heart, so chill,
' Asks for Willie, never thinking
01 our F'ather's will.
Quite forgetting that the angels
Took him home to God,
Only Willie's body resting
Under the brown sod ;
gelp me now, in this my sorrow,
Christ, to kiss thy rod!

A correspondent of the New York

of 044npion Gills, says;
The rebels, who on this occasion
were aommanded by General Pem.

reckless gallantry. They were
vlainiy composed of Georgians, and
w ere it not their efforts were ex

with lasting pride the day upon
which her sons fought and died at
Champion Hills. One entire regi
ment, posted in support of a series
of batteries on the crest, refused to
retreat when Hovey came upon
them, and were to' a man kill

of the regiment were killed where
they stood, refusing the boon of life
at the expense of being taken pris
oners.

KUBBARD LIGHT MOWER,
TN again presenting to the public this superior Mow
er, we refer with pleasure and pride to its unparal
leled success during the season of 1862; a success we
have not seen equalled during many years experience
in manufacturing Agricultural Implements. Upon its
fist introduction to the public, it at one took posi
tion among the very best machines of its class. Dur
ing the four years of its existence it has gained steadi
ly and rapidly in public favor, and we believe that, to
day, no Agricultural implement of any class enjoys so
high ar eputetion as the HUBBARD LIGHT MOWER.
It enters upon as fifth year with all the eclat of its
previous unrivalled success, and under the most favor
ble auspices. With most manuiacturers. the close ap
proximation to perfection obtained by the Machine in
1862, would have been sufficiently satisfactory, and
they would have been contented to have made all fu
ture Machines precisely like theca. Indeed, we have
received hundreds of letters from purchasers of the Ma
chine that express the idea that •the perfection of
Mowing Machinery is reached in the LITTLE HUB
BARD. It cannot be improved." But believing in
progress, and seeing where improvements could be
addea that would make what before wo. ked well, now
work still better, we decided to add them—although
they considerably increase the expense of manufactur
ing the Machine—and can now confidently say that

The undersigned would state for the information o
those interested, that we have seen the "Hubbard

in our opinion it is equal, ifuot superior to any Mow
