Sitting at the tahte with the family, she asked her father, who had been to church, bl4l"Nvii64lB - a very Wick ed man, whether he ever prayed. lie didll44ikfttlit qtrlionfild a very .11 manner replied "It is your mother, or your Aunt Sally, that put you up to that, my little girl ?" "No, papa," said the little crea ture; "the preacher said, 'All gOod people pray, and those who don't pray ain't going to heaven' Pa, do you pray ?" ms , .milre than her father coul stand,. and in a rough way he ?Vell 4u and your mother. and yo , ur s A.unt Sally may go your way, and rwill go mine." "Pa," said the little creature, with sweet simplicity, "which way are you going ?" This question pierced his heart.— It flashed upon him that he was in the way to death. Ile started from his chair, burst into tears, and imme aiately began to cry for mercy.— Within a few days he was a happy convert, and, I believe, he will ap pear in heaven as a star in his little claughter's crown of rejoicing. No Backward Movement. Man is constantly advancing to the eternal world. He can not go back to improve privileges that have been wasted. Life can not be traveled again, and each footprint is made to'be seen by us no more. Onward we must go. He that comes after us may profit by our follies, and track our way nearer and nearer to the beach where the ocean of eternity rolls,—he may see step after step in the sand till he comes to the last, half washed away by the tide, where we plunged into the vast ocean and disappeared forever; but dackward we can not go, to pick up the gold en gems which we once passed with indifference as they lay sparkling at our feet. Onward we are moving, and onward we must continue to move. How solemn, then, does life seem to progress ! And how loud the admonition to improve the g old en moments as they fly, for saving the soul, blessing the race, and giving glory to God. Seir "I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste." Intimacy with the Saviour is happiness, and from that adoring and af fectionate communion there should be seen to arise a decisive effect on the tem per and conduct. Sheriff's Sales. THE ►ROVE IS A PORTRAIT OF DAVID M'Canaay. Sworn statement of David M'Creary, of Napier tp., Bedford county: In April, 1856, as near as I can remember, a small pimple made its appearance on my upper lip, which soon became enlarged and sore. I used poultices of sorrel, and a wash of blue vitriol, without effect.— Finding the sore extending, I called on Dr. Ely, of Schellsburg, who pronounced it CANCER, and pre scribed a wash of sugar of lead and bread poultices. Finding these remedies of no avail, I called upon Dr. Shaffer, of Davidsville, Somerset county, who also pronounced the disease Cancer, and gave me internal and external remedies—the latter consisting principally of caustic; but all to no purpose, as the "ease con tinued spreading toward The nose. I next used a prep aration of arsenic, in the form of salve. This for a time checked the disease, but the inflamation soon in fo•rased. I called upon Dr. Stetter, of St. Clairsville, Bedford county, who also pronounced the disease Can cer, and applied a salve s tid to be a never failing rerM edy, but it had no effect whatever in checking the spread of the sore. In December in the same year, the disease had eaten away agreater part of my upper lip, and had attacked the nose, when I went to Cincinnati where I consulted Prof R. S. Newton, of the Eclectic Medical College. He pronounced the disease "a cu taneous Cancer, superinduced by an inordinate use of mercury." He applied mild zinc ointment, and gave me internal remedies. My face healed up, but the in flammation was not thoroughly removed. In February, 1857, he pronounced me cured, and I left for home. In April the disease again returned, and so violent was the pain that I coutu not rest at night. Late in May I returned to Cincinnati, and again placed myself ender the charge of Dr. Newton, with whom I remained un til September, during which time he used every known remedy, and partly succeeded in checking the disease, but when I returned home there were still three dis charging ulcers upon my face. I continued using New ton's preparations, and also medicine that I got from Dr. Ely, but the Cancer continued growing until it had eat off the left side of my nose, thegreater portion of my left cheek, aad had attacked my le f t eye. I had given up all hope of ever being cured, since Dr. Ely said he could only give relief, but that a cure was impossible In March, 1858, I bought a bottle of "Blood Searcher;" but I must confess that I had no faith in it. I was very weak when I commenced taking it; but I found thatq gained strength day by day, and also that the ulcers commenced drying up. I continued, and when the third bottle was taken, my face was healed as if by a miracle. I used the fourth bottle, and I have been healthier since than I have been for the last seven years. Although my face is sadly disfigured, I am still grateful to a benign Providence who has spared my life, and which has been done through the instrumentality et LINDSEY'S IMPROVED BLOOD SEARCHER. DAVID 11PCREARY. Sworn and subscribed, this 31st day of August, A. 0. 1858, before ine, one of the justices of the peace in. and for the borough of Hollidaysburg, Blair county, Pa. JOHN GORLEY, J. P. Creasy's. The particu'ars of these cases—every one of which was cured by the use of the "Blood Searcher"—nosy also be found in a circular to be had of any of the agents. A BAD BORE LEO CURED.—Pittsburgh, September 18, 1861-1 hereby certify that I have had a sore leg for over a year. It was coveted with ulcers and sores So that I could not work for nearly a year. My leg swell ed so that I was unabls to do anything for a long time, for at least six months. I tried several of the best doc tors in the city, but without any benefit; finally I called on Dr. Keyser, at No. 140 Wood street, who only at tended Inc about two weeks, and gave me bu ttwo bot tles of medicine, and I am entirely well, and have con tinued well for six months. I ant employed at the Eagle Engine House on Fourth street, where any one cats see me. THOMAS FARRELL. READ THIS CURE.—I was afflicted with a horrid di sease in my feet and ankles, so much so that frit sift weeks I was confined to my bed, and at other times to my chair, where I was compelled to sit for weeks. 1 was in the care of both our eminent physician* for a longtime, but they could do nothing to effect a cure or my pain. My feet and legs became very much swollen, and having heard of your Blood Searcher (although I had very little faith in ii), I was induced by Messrs. Alexander & Son, agents at this place, to try it. I had not used one bottle before I began to find immediate relief. I tried another, and am now able to walk about without crutches. 'I have tried other patent medicines. but received no benefit. I take pleasure in recODlMeDding your Blood Searcher above all others, to those who may be afflicted as I?..ice been. Yours, truly, PETER RISHER. _ _ _ APOLLO, Armstrong Co., Pa., Dec. 19„ 1859.
