RgrrRLicAN: -At the urgent so licitation ol friends throughout tbe county, I bsre consented to again be a candidate for tbe Republican nomma lion for Assembly from Forest County at me rrimsries, aisy j, inn A. R Mkchliso. Clarington, Pa., March HI, 1914. Our War With Mexico. Tbe war with Mexico la on, or Is not, as you please to look at it. Tbe latest phase of tbe entangled aituation is tbe of fer of tbe three greatest South American Republics Brazil, Argentina and Chile of their good offices in mediation of tbe embroglio, Thia offer has been gladly aud speedily accepted by President Wil son, snd Iluerta has reluctantly done tbe aame for bis government. If by this method further hostilities can be averted everybody will say amen to tbe proposi tion, but wise beads abske in doubt. Tbe President ssys Ibere ia no war and that there will be none, and all people hope he ia right, whether tbey can see it that way or not. If the administration can avert real war at tbia slsge of tbe situstion it will cause rejoicing throughout tbe civil ized world, but if it cannot and war most come tbe people of tbe United Sutea will not flinch in their loyalty to tbe govern ment, whether tbey approve of tbe man ner in wblcb tbe aituation up to tbe pres ent time bss been bsndled or not. And if tbe trouble shall be set' led without further bloodshed, let everybody tbe newspapers, orators, public officials and private individuals cease their clamor lor war. Level beaded and loyal citizen believe tbat It is still possible to settle tbe strife with entire credit and honor to thia nation. But if that la done there must be no buugling in policy or weskness in statesmanship. At last tbe railroads are "smoked out," and are flooding tbe national capital with their "big gun" spokesmen to convince tbe lawmakers tbat the Wilson canal sur render policy ia just tbe thing. The whole people will bsve their ssy later on, and tben, as happened in New Jersey two weeks ago, there will be fewer railroad British congressmen in Washington. Wk note with no little apprehension that a brother sufferer ol the scissors and paste-pot, in tbe person of Editor Hlader man of tbe Etnlenton Herald, baa been literally dragged out of bia editorial den and compelled to stsud as a Republican candidate for Assembly at tbe approach ing primaries in Venango county. While we have a feeling of ootnm iteration for auy erring brother, we are bappy to be lieve that in this inslauve, it serves blin right, and be will, to all appearances, have to take bis medicine, Iheie being two to nominate and but one other in tbe field. Once nominated, of course tbe level-beaded people of Venango county will see that the versatite brother ia "pinched" for tbe job, and tbat another good editor has slipped a cog and got himself into tbe legislature. But in tbe years to come be may Le forgiven if he behaves himself and sbows a disposition to reform after getting out. We hope and trust for tbe best in tbe case ol Br'er Haldertnan. Duhring. Mrs. A.
