Now or
Carpets, Mattings, Rugs,
Linoleums.
Now is your time to buy and save money. Never again
will you see carpetings of all kinds as low priced as they are
to-day. This is not guess work, but a positive fact as the mar
ket conditions are such that the goods cannot be made at first
cost for the prices they are offered to you. We anticipated ad
vances and bought very largely and very early. With the
backward spring we have many lots too big. Our motto is
never carry goods over to next season if a price will sell them.
So we have decided to make a price that must sell them. We
are never undersold for goods of equal value. Don't fail to see
what we have before buying.

USE FOB OLD WASH3TAXD3.
A Valuable Addition to tbe Kitchen
Furnishings.
Perhaps there's an old-fnshloned
wnshstuud with a marble top which
hits been banished from the bed
chamber to give place to an nil-wood
article of handsomer and up-to-dute
make.
But the old-time stand is not past
Its usefulness yet, by any means, so
pull it from Its cobwebby corner
down to the light of outdoors for a
general overhauling. If In good re
pair, merely treat the shelves and
drawers to a generous application of
warm suds, cleun olt the marble
with some whiting aud a cloth dip
ped iu alcohol, finishing the wood
work with a kerosene-moistened
cloth, and leave for a good suuntng
and airing.
it is now ready for a place In your
kitchen, where it will fill a long-felt
need, for the marble surface is far
superior to the ordinary board for
the rolling out of pie dough; becauso
it Is cold for one reason. Should the
top be furnished with tiny shelves,
all the handler, then, for accommo
dating the vessel of Ice-water aud
other articles.
Besides Its uses as a "baking
board," it Is just the thing upon
which to slice down vegetables for
soup, or cutting cabbage for slaw, or
trimming the steak for the evening
meal. It requires next to no work to
keep It clean, and is so sanitary, its
smooth surface affording but scanty
lodgment for the ubiquitous mi
crobe. Then, there is the drawer, for
dish towels; and there are the
shelves, for the stowing out of sight
and dust of the homely kettle and
pots and pans, the presence of which
should never be too conspicuous la a
well-ordered kitchen.
Where Closet Iloom Is Sonrce.
The accompanying illustration fills
a long felt want in households where
closets are small, and at the same
time takes up very little space. Tho
plan of Its construction is as follows;
Upon an ordinary standard is
placed a center upright, which sup-
I'lcrty of Hooks.
ports a revolving hub at the top.
Connected with the hub is a tubular
rim, upon which are suspended a
dozen or more hooks arranged to
slide on the rim. On each hook an
arm is attached. These arms are
about a foot la length and serve to
support the garments. When not
actually in use they can be swung
out of their extended position so as
not to extend beyond the outline of
the rim.
Trim Dutch Girls.
The etiquette of Holland Is ex
ceedingly strict in all classes. The
young girl is most carefully chap
eroned, and she never goes any
where, even to church, unless ac
companied by her parents, some male
relative, or other equally trusty at
tendant. At a dance the parents sit
round the walls sipping their coffee
or wine, and the young men must
make the best of their chances in
the opportunities afforded by the
dance, for when it pleases the guar
dians to depart there is no help for It
but the girls must go, too.
An unmarried girl always takes
the right arm of her escort, while
the matron takes the left, perhaps
because It is nearer the heart.
Soup Without Meat.
Take four ounces of butter, two
sliced onions, two heads of celery,
two lettuces, a small bunch of par
sley, two handfuls of spinach, three
pieces of bread crust, salt and pep
per to taste, the yolks of two eggs,
three teaspoonfuls of vinegar, two
quprts of water. Melt the butter In
a Btewpan and put in the onions to
stew for three or four minutes, then
add the celery, spinach, lettuce and
parsley cut small. Stir the ingred
ients well for ten minutes. Now put
In the water, bread and seasoning.
Boil gently for one and half hours,
and at the moment of serving beat
iu the eggs and the vinegar, but do
not let it boll, or the eggs will curdle.
Stuffed Onions.
Boll until tender but not broken
some large onions. Drain, and
when cool enough to handle, take
out the centers with a small knife.
Chop enough ham or cold meat to
make a cupful, add to It half as
much tine breadcrumbs and mix all
to a eoft paste with a little milk and
on beaten egg. Season to taste snd
put this mixture Into the centers of
the onions. Put In the top of each
onion a bit of butter. Place the
on.? as In a buttered pudding dish
and bake slowly until tender all
through. Three-quarters of an hour
should be time enough. Serve with
a white sauce.
