Pkmockats aro finding great fault will)
tlio wny in wliicli Chairman Cortelyou is
managing tlie campaign. That is what
he was put there for.
Democrats are now growling at Bryau
because ho 1ms prophesied Roosevelt's
election. A thing is nut a "prophecy"
tiiat everyone knows.
Dave II i I.I, and Oassaway Davis went
through Maryland and West Virginia like
a vaudeville circus. They will lind when
the vote Is counted that they were taken
as a huge joke.
Thk ticket is Roosevelt and Fairbanks,
Elkin, Sibley, Robertson, Kreitler and
Harrison, And so good that nobody will
liink it worth while to bother trying to
split his. Vote it straight.
At a large ratification meeting held by
the Democrats in Washington, D. C, the
picture of Parker and Davis appeared
right over the word "Exit." We can't
think of anything more appropriate.
It is said that Judge Parker is very
particular in seeing that his cattle get
their salt regularly. When he goes on
that trip up Salt hiver ou Jiov. 9th, he
can lay in supplies for years to come.
Thk Democratic National Committee Is
soliciting contributions and oilers a
"prompt and personal acknowledgment"
to all contributors. This Is worse than
throwing money away; better give it to
the poor.
Thk reason why the Democratic party
can not make their "organ" play Is
because a musical instrument is not cap
able of making a harmonious sound
when its keys range from free silver to
the gold standard and from tree trade to
protection.
The approach of the election in no way
moderated President Roosevelt's severity
with the steamboat inspectors whose
carelessness or worse, was contribntary
to the General Slocum disaster, in which
thf lives ol 055 Sunday school children
and their parents wero lost.
Thk Neiv York Herald, the greatest
among Parker's supporter's in that city,
has turned tail and gives up the fight
and says he is licked, "it seems almost
a foregon conclusion that Mr. Roosevelt
Will be elected," says the Herald. The
Democratic hulk is "all in."
"What does it profit us to keep in or
dor other American Slates," asks ex
S -eretary Olnoy. Ho ought to know. His
law partner, the late J. J. Storrow, whom
Secretary Olnoy lorced on Venezuela as
its counsol In the famous boundary arbi
tration, received over $500,000 in lees.
Honkst Jok Sint.EY's majority in
Forest county ought to lie fifty per cent.
greater this year than it was two years
ago. Let's make it so. A good and
faithful servant deserves well of his peo
ple, and no one will dony that Mr. Sib
ley has been the best we've ever had in
Congress.
The Into General Lawton declared that
every word from an American epponent
of the Philippine policy meant another
bullet for an American soldier. Candi
date Parker has by his incindiary speech,
contributed bullets enough to wipe out
the entire army of 1:1,000 men now in the
Philippines.
In tho light of rpcent campaign utter
ances from Mr. Parker and other leaders
of tho Demac racy, President Roosevelt's
assertion that "our opponents do notjven
ture to recite the facts about our policies
and acts and then oppose them. They
attack them only when they have tirst
misrepresented them," is more than ver
ified. Julian I'aiikku loloinnly told some
admirers who called at Ksopus last week
that over "two hundred thousand lives
had been sacrificed in the Philippines.
The facts are that tho lives of only 4,021
American soldiers were lost, from nil
causes including tho punishment of their
own excesses, ami a liberal estimate ol
tlin Filipino losses places them at less
than hyioo, a total of 15,000 against Mr.
Parker's 200,0(10.
REPUBLICAN MEETINGS.

IIOX. JOSEPH C. SIBLEY,
our lamed Congressman, will address the people of Forest coun-
ty at three Mass Meetings, at
TIONESTA, MONDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 31.
KELLETTVILLE, TUESDAY EVENING, NOV. 1.
MARIENVILLE, WEDNESDAY EVENING, NOV. 2.
Gen. John A. Wiley and other good speakers are expected
on these occasions. At any rate Mr. Sibley is a whole meeting
within himself, and those who have heard him once will not
miss an opportunity to hear him after that. And those who
have not had the good fortune to hear him will, we are sure,
make an extra effort to be at one or all of these meetings.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear your gifted friend and
Representative.
Ex-Skcri-taky Olnky (old a New
York audience that it was costing the
United States $"0,000,000 a year to retaiu
the Philippines. Such carelessness of
fact is almost criminal. The annual ex
pense incurred by the United States is
less than $2,o0',(00. It is only a differ
ence of a lew ciphers, but such an error is
inexcusable coming from uu intelligent
"statesman."
So much has been written about the
President's uso of the expression "big
stick" that tha connection in which he
used It Is Interesting. He said, "To boast
is bad, and causelessly to insult auother,
worse, yet worse than all is to bo guilty
of boasting, oven without insult, and
when called to the proof to be unable to
make such boasting good. There is a
homely old adage which ruus: 'Speak
softly and carry a big stick; you will go
far.' "
Candidate Paukkr has been doing
some remarkable "juggling" with sta
tistics. For instance, ho solemly declares
that the Philippines have cost this coun
tro $ti50,000,000 in addition to the J'JI.OOO,
000 purchase price. And yot Mr. Parker
must know that tho actual cost of the
Philippines to this. government lias been
only $IH4,1SO,000, including the $20,000,
000 purchase price. Is this sort of cam
paigning likely to increase the public's
respect for the Democratic presidential
candidate?
Although not excited over the mat
ter, the Republicans of Forest county
will all turn out to the election and sup
port the straight ticket, there being no
possible Incentive for doing anything
else. Never has there been less
to kick about in the Republican ranks
than there is this year, and when the
party members go to the polls to cast
their votes they will do so with the feel
ing that they are doing that which is best
for themselves and their neighbors and
the country In general. Forest county
ought to give a majority of between GoO
and 700, no doubt getting close to tho lat
ter figure. We hope to see the vote the
largest ever polled in the county, and we
bolieve it will be, because of tho univer
sal desire to participate in the election of
Roosevelt, and the whole State and coun
ty ticket. Prepare to lie at tho polls on
the Hth of Novembor.
