The convention of return jukges elect
ed at the Republican primaries last Sat
urday met at the court house yesterday
afternoon as provided by the rulea of the
party. Chairman Osgood called the con
vention to order promptly at 2 o'clock,
and Leon Watson of Kelleltvllle, and P.
T. Hottel ol Clarington were elected
clerks, and J. T. Hale secretary. As the
roll of precincts was called, the delegate
representing fame handed in the returns
therefrom and they were tabulated by
the clarks. Tbe result (-bowed the nomi
nation of the following ticket:
Congress, Joseph C. Sibley,
Assembly, John II. Robertson.
Associate Juduo, Frank X. Kreiller.
Treasurer, Wm. II. Harrison.
National Delegate, W. Leon Watson.
State Delegate, M. E. Abbott.
The Chairman declared these gentle
men duly nominated by the party for the
ensuing election.
W. P. Crouch, Leon Watson and S. L.
Pickens were named as Congressional
conferees.
The convention also named F. F. Whit
tekiu as alternate State delegate.
Geo. W. Osgood was re-elected Chair
man of the County Committee for the en
suing year.
The successful candidates were called
upon and Mr. Robertson, Mr. Kreltler,
Mr. Harrison and Mr. Watson cordially
thanked the voters for the support given
tleni at the recent primaries, and prom
ised faithful performance of their duties
if elected. All the speeches we liberally
applauded.
Ti e ticket nominated is a strong oue
and a winner, and we would adviso our
Deuiocjatic friends to forego the trouble
of putting up a ticket against it, for they
will not be in it.
The official result appears in tabulated
form elsewhere in this issue.
A Jfksey man found $475 in an old
blacksmith's bellows tnat had lain in his
garret twenty-five years. The original
owner evidently Intended to blow it in.
IIkarst's capture of the Rhode Island
delegates has caused consternation in the
ranks of all the "regular" candidates.
Meanwhile Hearst is complacently
marching on.
New York is up in arms because the
mayor has given Mormon missionaries
permission to preach in the streets.
Streets should be reserved wholly for
travel and transportation.
Skcketary Taft says that five mil
lions ot the Filipinos aie Catholics and It
should be our ambition to make them
good Catholics. We should not treat them
as conquered people, but encourage them
to read the Declaration of Independence
and help them to become enlightened.
Tiik conle-t is on in Alabama between
Merrimao Hobson and Congressman
Bankbead, and the welkin rings when
ever Hobson opens his mouth. lie Is for
a twenty billion dollar navy and be does
not begrudge a single dollar of it. Rank
head lies low and stays in Washington
and trusts his people,
Tiik path of the Republican party from
mis nay till me clay alter election Is
straight and smooth. The effervescence
in Ohio, Now York, and some other
states is only a sign of popular interest,
rather thau discontent. Differences of
opinion concerning non-essentials fetch
out the voto on election day.
A itkioijs coalition is proposed be
tween the Prohibitionists and their nat
ural foes the Democrats. The Prohibi
tion leaders are booming Gen. Nelson A.
Miles, to be nominated at their Indianap
olis convention on June Sotli. Then they
want the Democrats to nominate him and
think the way to his election will be
clear.
Some of the President's enemies aro
bnngiim out thn circumstances that he,
as assistant secretary of Iho navy, want
ed to pili-h into Spain savagely right at
the start in the war of 1898. . Secretary
Long, hisonVml superior, it is said, bad
to bold him back. Tim inreience lo be
drawn from all this W i,t jf Roosevelt
had been allowed to have his way Dew
ey's victory would have come a lilllo
earlier limn it did, and Cervt ra's Meet
would have been destroyed before it not
a chance to hide in Santiago harbor.
Hiese are queer accusations to bring
auaiiist the President. The more his en
emies talk about his "suddenness" in the
Spanish war the better his countrymen
will like him. Roosevelt's majority In
the electoral college is likely to be some
what top-heavy in any case, but his
Spanish war critics are doing their little
List to ineieise it.

Tiik decision ofthe Supreme Court In
the great Northwestern Security Merger
case, was rendered on the 14th instant
Mr. Justice Harlan reading it before a
crowded court room filled with members
ofthe bar, Senators and Congressmen.
The opinion of the court is wholly
against the defendants, declaring the
merger to be illegal, in restraint ot com
petition, and in contravention of the in
terstate commerce act. The company
which holds the stock was declared to be
a trust, against the acts of which the peo
ple are entitled to be protected. It will
be restrained fioin exercising any con
trol whatever over the competing rail
ways, and competition will be restored.
The decision is a wonderful vlctoiy for
the administration of President Roose
velt, and the American people feel that
they have a chief executive who has the
stamana to insist that the laws passed for
their protection shall be enforced.

"1)0 IT TO-DAY."
The time-worn injunction, "Never put
oil' 'til to-morrow what you can do to
day," is now generally presented in this
form: "Do it to-day 1" That is the terse
advise we want to give you about that
backing cough or demoralizing cold with
which you have been struggling for sev
eral days, perhaps weeks. Take some
reliable remedy for It TO-DAY and let
that remedy bn Dr. Boschoe's German
Syrup, which has been in use for over
thirty-live years. A few doses of it will
undoubtedly relieve your cough or cold,
and its continued uso for a tew days will
cure you completely. No matter how
deep-seateil your cough, even if dread
consumption has attacked your lungs,
German Syrup will surely effect a cure
as it has done before in thousands of ap

Proper Treatment fur Piirmnoiiin.
Pneumonia is too dangerous a disease
for anyone to attempt to doctor himsell,
although he may have the roper medi
cines at hand. A physician should al
ways be called. It should be b rne in
mind, however, that pneumonia always
results from a cold or from an sttack of
the grip, and that by givinir Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy the threatened at
tack of pneumonia may be warded off.
This remedy is also used by physicians
in the treatment of pneumonia with best
results. Dr. W. J. Smith, of Sanders,
Ala., who is also a druggist, says, of it:
"I have leen selling Chamberlain's
Co u tih Remedy and prescribing it in my
practice lor the past six years. I use it
in cases of pneumonia and have alwavs
gotten best results." Sold by Dr. J. C.

Do you know that nny person to sell goods
the Old Fashioned Way On Credit to
figure on about 10 per cent, for losses. ?
Do you know who pays that 10 per cent
Why, of course, the man who is honest
enough to pay for his goods has to pay the ex
tra 10 per cent, profit to make good the "Dead
Beat's" account.
I do away with all this, by selling goods
for Cash only. I take no chances of losing any
thing, and take the 10 per cent, off the prices
d Give the Honest Man a Chance.
Every article in this store is Marked Down
and we will positively sell Cheaper than any
one Dare Do, who sells on credit.
