UNLOOKED-FOR TEST- Tacht Independence Withstand a 8evere Accidental Trial. BOSTON, June 7. The Lawson yacht Independence in her second sail trial yes terday met with h"r first accident, a not very serious jamming of the steering gear, but sufficient to stop the trial af ter an hour ami a half of splendid sail ing, during which she attained a speed, on a reach of n little over three miles, of IV j nautical mile nn hour. The acci dent led very unexpectedly to n most thorough test nf the yacht's rigging and her big steel mast, through the sudden gybing without preventer stays being run hack to take up the strain nnd the re sult showed that it requires a pretty se vere blow to dismast the Boston yacht.
