age ol a dollar containing haj
grain, wu rlh in gold about 02 cents,
gives an illegitimate profit to the
owner of t he bullion, enabling lura to
take !)2 cents worth of it to the mint
and get it stamped as coin and force
his neighbor to take it for a full dol
lar. This is an unfair advantage
ital of tho people or the wealth of
the nation. It seeks to introduce a
new measure of value, but would add
no value to the thing measured. It
would not conserve values. On the
contrary it would dorange all exist

yet remains.
WHAT FRKK COINAGE MKAN8.
The meaning of the coinage plank
adopted at Chicago is that any one
may take a quantity of silver bullion
worth 63 cents to the mints of tho
which the government lias no ngni 10 ...j 8( ,)ave jt u cuileJ , lh0

to take the dollar. It assuredly fol
lows that if we give froo coinage to
this dollar of inferior value and put
it in circulation we do so at the ex
pense of our better coinage in gold ;
and uuless we expect the inevitable
expense of tho Government, and ro
ceive for it a silver dollar which shall
be legal tender for the payment of
all debts, public and private. The
owner of the silver bullion would get
the silver dollar. It would belong to
him and to nobody else. Other peo
ple would get it only by their labor,
