DISTRICTS.
Republican Frimnrics and County Con
Tcnlion. The Return Judges of the Forest
County Republican Primaries, held
last Saturday, met in Convention at
the Court House yesterday, at 2
p. m., and were called to order by
acting Chairman Gus B. Evans, who
appointed as secretaries of the meet
ing Leon Watson of Nebraska, aod
M. E. Abbott of Hickory. The roll
was called, showing nearly every pre
cinct represented by the properly ac
credited Judge, those not iu atten
dance having transmitted their re
turns by the hands of one of the
judges of bis township, as per resolu
tion by the County Committee Feb.
24th.
The returns were then opened and
computed by the Chairman and Sec
retaries, resulting in the nomination
of the following ticket, and the gen
tlemen named were declared duly
Dominated by the Chair:
Congress, A. Wayne Cook, of Bar
Dett twp.
Assembly, J. E. Wenk, of Tio
necta. Prothonolary, John fl. Robertson,
of Jeuks twp.
Sheriff, Frank F. Walker, of Green
twp.
- County Commissioners, W. M.
Coon, of Barnett twp., and Cbas. M.
Whiteman, of Tionesta twp.
Auditors, M. E.Abbott, of Hick
ory twp., and J. R. Clark, of Tiones
ta. Jury Commissioner, J. B. Carpen
ter, of Kingsley twp.
National Delegate, J. C. Campbell,
of Jeuks twp.
State Delegate, Geo. L. King, of
Harmony twp.
The Bowmanville returns were
sent by mail, but failed to arrive in
time to be tabulated. The Chairman
was empowered to add the vote of
that precinct to the returns when re
ceived. They have been recived and
appear in the table published today.
On moliou Mr. Cook, candidate for
Congress, was accorded the courtesy
of naming his own Conferees. The
same courtesy was also extended to
Mr. Campbell, candidate for Na
tional Delegate.
The election of a Chairman for the
ensuing year being next in order, Mr.
B. J. Day, of Kellettville, nominated
Gus B. Evans, and he was unani
mously chosen. Mr. Evans has dur
ing the pastyear very acceptably filled
the place in the absence of the regular
Chairman, and bis election at this
time is a graceful recognition of bis
services.
The business of the Convention
was thus practically finished, and af
ter all candidates present bad re
turned thanks for the boners confer
red the meeting adjourned. Through
out the proceedings were harmonious,
and the canvass ended as it had
begun, in good feeling and iriendli
ness in the ranks. Of the ticket
nominated we shall take pleasure in
speaking later in the approaching
campaign, sufficing it to say now that
it is made up of loyal, steadfast
Republicans, aud one which will
enlist the hearty and united support
of the party in the fall.

Warned In Time. 1
The Telegraph desires at this time
to warn Republican district confer
ences at which Republican electors
for the National ticket are elected to
be very careful who are named for
electors. The law says that no man
connected with the United States
Government in any position whatever
is eligible for the position of Presi
dential elector, and is held to apply
not only to those who hold appointive
or salaried positious under the Feder
al Government, but also to National
Hank officers and stockholders in
National Banks. To be sure, the
question as to the National Bank of
ficers and stockholders has never
bceu settled, yet there is rd element
of uncertainty in the mattter which
was considered so serious some years
ago as to lead (he Republican State
Committee to request a National
Bank director, whu had been placed
on the electnrial ticket, to get off the
ticket, aod, though he demurred, he
was compelled to do so. It is this
that the Telegraph desires to call
to the attention of the Republicans
of Pennsylvania at this time. Coun
ty conventioos are being held und
electors will soou be chosen. It is
better to be careful and best to be
certain. A single electorial vote
was very valuable iu 1877, when the
question of who should be President
trembled in the balance. Ilarriis-
burg Telegraph.
On Monday, nt Washington, the
House adopted the conference report
on tbe Cuban resolutions by a vote of
244 to 27. By this action the House
agreed to the Senate resolutious aud
disposed of tbe Cuban question for
the present. These resolutions were
as follows :
Resolved, That in the opinion of
Congress, a roudilion of public war
exists between the government of
Spain and the government proclaim
ed, and for the time maintained by
force of arms by the people of Cuba;
and that the United States of Amer
ica should maintain a strict neutral
ity between the contending powers
according to each all the rights of
belligerents in the ports and territory
of the United States.
Resolved, Further, that tbe friend
ly office of the United States should
be offered by the president to the
Spanish government for the recogni
tion of the independence of Cuba.
Tue statement of Mr. KaufJman,
of the KaufTman Milling Company of
St. Louis, one of the largest expor
lent of flour in the country, that the
sales of that -concern in Cuba and
Porto Rico were 83000 to S4000 per
month before the reciprocity treaties
were made, and about 825,000 per
month during the time the treaties
were in force, whereas since the re
peal of the treaties they bave falleu
to from 82000 to 83000 per month, is
a conclusive argument in favor of the
parly which established the recipro
city policy aud will restore it as soon
as possible.

March Oil Report.
According to the Derrick's report,
the new production was swelled in
March by tbe Tyler county gushers,
and several strikes of more than or
dinary calibre in the McDouald and
Cecil districts iu Washington county.
A number of wells iu the Indian

by the enormous gas pressure, or the
March production would have shown
a much heavier percentage ol gain.
Operators coutiune to complain of
the loads, but new operations show a
decided gain over those of the preced
ing month.
The March summing up for the
helds producing Pennsylvania oil re
veals the fact that 542 wells were
completed, of which 142 were devoid
of oil, while the production of the
re.nainder amounted to 8.842 barrels.
Compared with February there was a
decrease of thirteen wells completed
with an increase of 1,075 barrels iu
new production.
The new work under way at lite
close ot March consisted ot 413 rigs
anil Oo! arming wells, which was a
decrease of three rigs and an in
crease of forty-eight wells drilling
over Jtebruary.
