to make preparations for the summer's
run of barge building at the Lawrence it

to move his family from Nebraska to

Joseph F. Matt, the piano tuner, has
been in town, but not being able to finish
all the work on this trip, ho will return

Two Kellcttville households have
been saddened within the past few days
by death. On Sunday a fonr-months-old
child of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grove died,
and on Monday Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Smith wore called upon to mourn the loss
of their girl babe, three weeks old. Both
were buried at Whig Hill.

week one day, and took with him to his
farm in Tionesta twp., a load of doors
and windows for the new house which
he will erect the coming summer. It is

The first real spring weather we havo
had so far has been sinco Sunday, and the
balmy atinosphoro of the past day or two
has been very welcome. Bobbins and
blue birds are plenty, and chipper, and
busying themselves in pieparatiou for
the summer. The streams are swollen
and rafting has begun to claim tho atten
tion of lumbermen. The frost In most
places is out of tho ground, aud at this
writing it looks very much as though
spring is 011 deck.
Among the sentences pronounced in
tho U. S. district court at Scranton last
week, was that upon John W. Honder
son for counterfeiting. Ho was arrested
near Corry three weeks ago, and was
given four years in tho western peniten
tiary for making spurious coin. This is
his third sentence for this otl'cnse, as he
has been a coiner since lHl'J. Ho has
been a very sly customer, and when
closely pressed has always bid among
the lumber camps iu the w estern part of
the state.

L. L. Davenport, solicitor for the
Central District Telephone Co., secured
twenty-one contracts while hoio last
week, enough to warrant his company in
establishing an exchange in Tionesta, and
tho work of erecting the line will begin

In the U. S. District Court, sitting
In Scranton last week, George Brady and
Georgo K. Murray, giving their residence
at Titusvillo, were convicted of robbing
the Pleasantvilla postofTlce. The former
was sentenced to tho Western Peniton-
tiary for four years; and the latter for
throo years and six months. It will be
recalled that early In the winter tho
Pleasantville oflleo was broken into and
robbed of about 1,900 pennies. Those
two men were found in Corry next day,
stocking up with liquor and rich food,
paying for tho same in pennies. A two
cent piece, bearing peculiar marks, was
found on ono of them and identified as
beloginging to the stolon stuff. frank

The public is cautioned against a
traveling fraud who has already victim
ized people In a number of towns iq the
state. He claims to be an agent of the
government, and going to tho houses of
the votorans says that the department is
about to give ordors for several hundred
thousand blue army shirts. Wishing to
give the wives of the veteran a chance to
make a little monoy, the government has
decided to give the shirts out to soldiers'
families to make up. When be receives
an order for the shirts the agent looks
ovor tho sewing machine in tho house
aud finding that the stitch Is not Just
right offers to change it for a dollar, tho
money to bo given back wheu tho ma
terial for the shirts is delivered by an as.

The residence of Joseph Hall at Rod
clyffe was burned last Saturday. Most
of the household goods wore saved.
The residence of Isaac Steele at the
Watson Farm burned Saturday, March
Nth, together with all the household
goods. M. A. Eminger and Miss Belle
Silvis, both of this township, were
married Wednosday, March 25th, by C.
IT. Wilton, J. P. It was expected that
the Salmon Creek Oil Co. well would bo
completed the first of the week, but up
to date the "pay streak" has not been
reached and the drill is still la going
down. The engine house at Campbell,
Ritts fe Co.'s mill burned Monday, and
the "dinky" was used up to such an ex
tent that it will be necessary to send it
away for repairs. It will cost several
hundred dollars to put it in shapo again.
John Waltors, of Tylorsburg, got a
pioce of stool in his eye some time ago,
and last week wont to tho Oil City hospi
tal, whore it was found necessary to re
move the eyo. It is now feared that ho
will lose tho sight of tho other eye.
A team of horses belonging to J. S. Cald
well, of Byromtown, fell into an old well
one day last week and went to tho bot
tom, about seventeen feet. Arrange
ments were mado and the horses lifted to
tho top of tho ground, and strange to say,
neither of tho animals were injured in
any way.
