OUR I'OCXTY TICKET.
Lees than two weeks jet remain, of
the campaign, which bas been an ex
ceedingly quiet one thus far. The
Republicans, we trust, will fully ap
preciate its importance, however, and
make it a point to be out to a man
and cast their votes for the straight
ticket. Our county ticket is one
which deserves the hearty support of
every Republican in the county, and
we feel confident it will receive that
support.
A. J. McCray,
the Republican nominee for Associate
Judge, is one of the etauuchcst mem
bers of the party in the county, and
one who has given much of bis time
and means in support of its princi
ples and candidates heretofore. The
party never found him lagging when
it needed friends, and it will Dot now
be slow to show its appreciation of
good services rendered, by giving
him a rousing majority at the ensu
ing election. Mr. McCray is thor
oughly qualified to fill the position in
an able and acceplible manner, being
possessed of a clear mind, good judg
ment, fair and just to fiiends and foes
alike. While he has always been
outspoken and above board when
principle was involved, he has the
happy faculty of making friends and
retaining them in a remarkable de
gree. In fact, if we were to hunt for
Jack's enemies we don't know where
we d go to find them. He will make
a model Associate Judge, and he
should be elected by a flattering ma
jority. You will not regret the vote
you cast for him.
James II. Fones,
the Republican nominee for County
Treasurer, is another who deserves
the best considerations of his party
and the people of the county gener
ally. He was born and raised within
its borders, and from early boyhood
was compelled to "paddle his own
canoe." When quite a young man
he had the misfortune to loose one
of hit arms by being caught under a
freight car from which he was un
loading lumber. He did not sit
down and give up, bot went to work
with a hearty good will, and by close
ecooomy and industriously improving
every hour made his way in the
world unaided except by the one arm
be has left, and which he put to good
use. There never was a task too'
great for bim to undertake if by it he
could earn an honest dollar, and with
all his disadvantages be Las managed
to give assistance to many a worthy
cause. A good heart and an honest
endeavor to succeed basjwon for him
the friendship and esteem of all who
know bim. He is thoroughly capa
ble of filling, in a most satisfactory
manner, the position for which the
party has named him, and he will
make a careful, painstaking and pleas
ant official to do business with. Vote
for Mr. Fones and rest assured that
you have given your support to a
worthy, honest and deserving citizen.
There is no temptation that should
Induce any Republican to scratch his
ticket at the coming election. There
is no reason why he should desire to
do it. There is nothing to be gained
by giving any one name on the op
posing ticket a complimentary vote
and there is danger of invalidating
one's ballot in whole or in part, by
so doing. The Republican couuty
ticket is an exceptionally strong aud
good one. Eacb candidate is entitled
to the undivided support of the Re
publican electors. They are all well
known and popular citizens and de
serve the fullest confidence of the
party. There isn't the slightest ex
cuse for any Republican going over
in the enemy's camp to cast a vote.
Let every man stand by his colors
and come to the polls and be counted.
It will be an exceedingly easy mat
ter to vote the straight ticket all the
way down, and it will add greatly to
every Republican's satisfaction when
the returns are read.
Get out the vote Republicans, and
let ua have a rousing majority.
And still the party of stupendous
inaction sits quietly at Washington
aud give not a sign or a token of its
sympathy iu the Cuban afl'air.
As A result of a terrible cooflsgra
tion in Algiers, Louisiana, on Sun
day last, over one thousand people
are left homeless, and the distress is
very great.
Let us roll up an old-time Repub
lican majority for the county ticket.
The candidates, Monsrs. McCray and
Fones, are made of the right kind of
metal, and are Republicans which we
should feel proud to support. They
have been loyal to the party; let the
party now prove its loyalty to them.
Don't fail to be out early on election
day and give the ticket your vote and
hearty support.
TllE Supreme Court bas settled the
question of how many of the seven
Superior Court judges a voter is al
lowed to vote for, in a decision ren
dered last Thursday. The highest
court holde that the law as passed
is all right as it stands, and that each
elector can vote for six candidates
only. The Secretary of State will so
certify the official ballot to the county
commissioners, and thus the matter
is settled.
The Titusville Advance Guard,
says very briefly: "We want no
more Uritieh capital here." The
Tribune Republican seconds the mo
tion. But let the Guard pay right
out, who has brought British capital
here? The men who bring the pro
ducts of English capital here bring
English capital here. We want nei
ther English capital, English pro
ducts, English habits nor English
Free Trade. We don't want English
capital to own our railroads, our fac
tories, our farms, our congress, or our
President. We want an American
system of industry run by American
capital, American ownership of Amer
ican lands, American financial system,
American protective tariff, and Amer
ican government for every foot of
land in North and South America.
The Guard utters a Republican senti
ment in the line quoted, and a con
demnation of the Democratic Presi
dent who paid eighteen per cent, pre
mium to British capitalists for $62,
000,000 of government bonds, to buy
gold to ship to England, to enable
the English to buy more bonds and
get more premium, and so ad libitum.
