Last Saturday morning Sheriff Carsnu received a telegram contain ing the sad news of the death of his mother, which occurred at her home at Scotch Hill, Clarion Bounty. In the bouse were found a bark stripper's spud, which it is claimed, fits exactly into marks left in woodwork in the bouse where the murder occurred It is also claimed that the boots worn by Dewitt have an imprint similar to some discovered near the Shearman residence the day of the tragedy. It has at last been decided that, while tho old Jriii building is plenty largo enough to hold all the prisoueis we ever have in Forest county, it is not suf ficiently up-to-date to keep pace with our othor county and borough institutions, and the commissioners have let a con tract to tho Van Horn Iron Works com pany of Cleveland, Ohio, and as soon as tho wealher will permit tho excavating will commence lor the erection 01 a bang up new jail and sherill's residence that is to cost S 1 4,500. The building is to occupy a ground space of 4x,r)7 feet, tho jail part to bo two stories high and the residence part three stories, and will be built of brick, stone and iron. The ground floor of tho Jail will be composed of six cells, or Iron cages, Hx!4 feet iu size, with a corridor between, nt d each cell Is to be provided with a water closet and wash stand. The sec ond story will lie compose! ol six rooms suitablo for women and children prison ers, and will lie rurnished with the latest improved jail "furniture." The entire building will be heated with improved heating apparatus that is guar anteed to keep every room In the build ing heated at a temperature of 70 during the coldest weather. The contract calls for the completion of the building by the 2'Hh of August and when completed and the old one romoved, the county will have buildings and grounds to be proud of.
