Auditor General, AMOS H. MYLIN. Secretary of Internal iflairs, JAMES W. LATTA. Conjircss-at-Largo, GALVSIIA A. GROW, GEORGE 1 HUFF. corxTv. Congress, A. W. COOK. (Subject to action of Dist. Conference.) Assembly, J. E. WESK, Associate JuJvre, J. A. NASH. District Attorney, 1'. M. CLARK. Coroner, J. W. MORROW. BEl'UBLICAX STATE eONTESHOX. The Republican State Convention met in the opera house at Ilarrisburg od tbe 23d inpt., and was called to order at 10:30, by Chairman Gilkeson of the State CeDtral Committee. General Lnusis Wagucr was made temporary chairman. Dr. T. L. Flood of Crawford county was the permanent chairman. Gen'l Jas. A. Beaver placed General Daniel II. Hastings, of Belle loo te in nomina tion fur Governor, and Charles Em ery Smith seconded the same. Geo " eral Hastings' nomination was made by acclamation by a rising vote. For Lieutenant Governor the name of Walter Lyon of Pittsburg, and Congressman John B. Robinson of Doleware county, were submitted to tbe convention, each being backed up by good speeches by their respective admirers. This is tbe only office on which a ballot was taken, the other nominations having been made by acclamation. A ballot for Lieut. Governor revealed 62 votes for "Jack" Robinson, and 103 for Lyon. Amos II. Mylin of Lancaster county, was unanimously nominated for Au ditor General; Gen. James W. Lat- ta, of Philadelphia, for Secretary of Infernal affairs; Galusha A. Grow of Susquehanna county and George F. Huff of Westmoreland county, for Congressmen-at-Large. The convention was one of the largest ever held in the State, and contained many of the most promi nent men in the State. It was re markable for the enthusiasm display ed, as well as its oratorical goms. Harmony aud good cheer prevailed to a remarkable degree, some of the brightest and happiest speeches com ing from those who had been candi dates but whose names were with' urawn from the list before the voting began. The platform was adopted amid the greatest enthusiasm. It speaks out boldly on all the great questious now before the American people and cannot be misunderstood. THE PLATFORM. Tho following declaration of principles was unanimously adopted by tlieconven tion : "The Republicans of Pennsylvania, In convention assembled, repeat, for the regulation and government of the nation al currency, the following principles of finance which were announced by us at our lat State convention, and which, since then have received the overwhelm Ing approval of our fellow citizens: "We favor the expansion of the circu lating medium of the country until tho same shall amount to forty dollars per capita of our population, and approve the provision to issue National bank notes to the par value of the amount of bonds de posited to secure their circulation. "Wo declare that the obligation ot the government should be discharged In money, approved and current in all civ ilized nations, to the end that a largely increased reserve of gold should be grad ually accumulated and maintained. "We declare our belief to be that no legislation can make our currency meet the needs of the American people unless it conforms to the following utterance of our last National convention : "Tho American people, from tradition and interest, favor bi-metalism, and the Republican party demand the use of both gold and silver as standard money, with such restrictions and under such provisions to bo determined by leirisla tion as will soeuro aud maintain the par ity of values of the two metals, so that the purchasing and debt-paying power of a dollar, whether silver, gold or paper, shall bo at all times ennui. The interest of the producers of the country, its farm ers and its workingmcn demand that ev ery dollar, paper or coin, issued by the government shall bo as good as auy other. "The threats and efforts which the Democratic party, uow in control of the executive and legislative departments of the National government, are making to destroy the system of protection to American iudustries, have wrecked our manufacturing establishments, destroyed the value of our farm products, ruined our employers, beggared our working men and brought distress upon the hon esty of their proposed legislation. "We denounce the Democratic assault upon the American protactive system, because its effects have already been to loduoe to idluuess twtuilliuus of work ingmcn and values to an amount greater than tho national debt created for the suppression of the rebollion j because it enlarges the free list only upon products which employ the greatest number of American workmen j because it strikes with equal cruelty tho farmer, the miner, the lumberman, the iron, tho glass, and the textile workers; because It transfers work from our own mills, mines and workshops to foreign countries; because it is sectional ami aimed directly at northern industries, and fosters tho plant ation system and destroyes the farm; be cause It is vicious in its changes from specific to ad valorem duties, in its re duction of the revenues of the govern ment by many millions of dollars, and it resorts to war taxes and increasod inter nal and direct taxes to make up the de ficiency it needlessly creates. "We commend and approve the efforts of our senators and members of congress to delay and defeat the passage of legis lation hostile to any American industry, and we denounce tho treatment of our workingmcn by tho Democratic commit tee of tho senate, which, in violation of courtesy and of all legislative tradition, denied them a hearing when they desired In a constitutional manner to remonstrato against tho destructive legislation. "We denouce the selection of a south ern Democrat for the secretaryship of the Interior as a deliberate betrayal of the welfare of our soldiers and sailors, and deplore tho needless persecutions, sus picions and privations to which they have been subjected under that hostile admin istration. "We denounce tho unpatriotic and un American management of our toreign re lations by the Democratic national ad ministration, which surrenders Ameri can treaty right and vital interests in Samoa and which has unjustifiably plan ned aud labored to uphold and restore an odious monarchy in Hawaii and prevent the establishment there of a sister repub lic in conflict with tho principles of self- government upon which our own repub- lio was founded. "We demand the enactment of such legislation as will prevent the immigra tion of paupers, criminals and persons incapable either physically or mentally, of self-support. 'We demand such chango in our nat uralization system as will deny the rights of American citizenship to Anarchists, and to all other persons hostile to our government and to that liberty of law upon which it is based. "The Cleveland administration has ver ified the worst apprehensions of thoso who opposed its entranco into ofticc. It has demonstrated its incapacity to gov ern both foreign and domestic affairs. It has shown its powerlossness to counsel wisely even its own party followers, so that Democratic congressmen are adrift upon all questions where the power of public patronage docs not compel them to act alike. Immediately upon its ac cession to power tho Democratic party be trayed the confidence the American peo ple had reposed in it and since then it has continuously shown itself so thor oughly unequal to the discharge of tbe high trust committed to its care, that its history excites the contempt and distrust of every thoughtful citizen." Ira! to wiite their own scedulcs. On the great Maple, sugar, they oiler rates of duties, ad valorem, that are 25.04 higher than tho much abused McKinley bill. The wholo perform ance, as Tom Reed well expressed it, bears evidence of either ignorance or barter on all its features. It puts the Democratic Senators helplessly on the defensive, and they hiivo to stand mute uiler the lashes and galling in sults of such middle-weights as Halo aud Aid rich Franklin Nat's.
