oarried out by tbe Grand Army boys
and their friends. All citizens are
cordially invited to lend a hand in
the proper observance of tbe day.
G. W. Armstrong, who spent
last week In Altoona as the Represen
tative of Tionesta Lodge, No 369, at
the meeting of the State Grand
Lodge, reports tbe largest conven
tion of Odd Fellows that the State
has ever seen. We are indebted to
him for late files of Altoona papers
giving full accounts of the conven
tion. Tbe bretbern of the local
lodges spared no pains to make it
pleasant for their visitors, and a
grander time could not well be im
agined. Tbe Rebecca Degree Lodges
also held their convention there at
the same, and also report a royal
time.

A Flood to Date From.
Not sinoe the famous great flood of
'65 has the Allegheoy river at this

point, inundating nearly all the low
lands. In this vicinity no great loss

The great flood is subsiding. It looked
for a time as though all Hickory would
have to move out, and our oldor citizens
say it was the highest wator we've had
since 76.
Misses Islanche and Gusta Kioster are
visiting their sister, Mrs. Henry Shipe,
of Marienville, this week.
The Maccabees are gaining rapidly in
membership, and will aoon have a very
strong Lodge hero.
The observance of Memorial Day in
this place promises to be a fitting one in
all respects, and no doubt the turnout
will be very large.
A boat la being built at the mouth of
the creek 17x80 feet and 3 feet deep. It
will be used by Junk dealers between
here and Pittsburg.
Collins & Siggins are repairing the old

Times, which announces that every one
of its sixty thousand subscribers and all
who will become regular readers before
Saturday, May 12th, will be presented
with the first part of the most remarkable
Art Portfolio of the year. The work re
ferred to is "Frank Leslie's Scones and
Portraits of the Civil War," which will
furnish a complete and authentic history
of the conflict between the states in pic
tures drawn on the spot and in descrip
live prose. The first part will bo deliv
ered free to all readers of the Pittsburg
Times in exchango for the first six cou
pons, and the otner twenty-nine parts
will be furnished in exchange for six
coupons clipped from the Times and ten
cents for each part.
There will be thirty parts, twenty six
of which will be devoted to illustrations
and four to reading matter. Each of the
first twenty-six parts will contain sixteen
illustrations, making a total of four hun
dred and sixteen in the complete volume.
Short descriptions will accompany the
pictures In each part. The pictures were
made on the scene of battle by the most
famous artists of the time, and can there
fore be relied upon as absolutely accurate.
The work will be a supplement to every
written history, portraying as it does the
striking Incidents of battle, and giving
the likenesses ot the leaders whose names
were on every lip in the days of strife.
Hero the veterans will find the past re
ddled, and here the young may gain In
spiration to emulate their patriotism and
dovotion.
