THE FOREST REPUBLICAN. . t. WINK, Editor a. Psofrkto. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, lSf'.l. THE GREAT REPUBLICAN SLIDE. LAM). As the Odlrial IMrirtm Come in Victory Become More Pro- nniinccd. the TKKNSRLVANIA. The Republican majority in Penn sylvania is still growing, and when all the official figures are in they r i 1 1 show a majority of nearly )3!t,000. Siity-four of the 67 counties and es timates in the other three give Jack (on, for Stale Treasurer, a plurality of 138,084. This beats Grant's ma jority in 1872. NEW YORK. The official figures make the ma jority of Palmer, Republican candi date for Secretary of State, over Meyer, Democrat, 24,768, and Bart lelt, Republican, for Judge of the Court of Appeals, over Maynard, Democrat, 100,146. There is no change in the Senators and Assembly men announced as elected. The Re publicans will have a majority of 6 in the Senate and 20 in the House. OHIO. The official returns are in from four-fifths of the 88 counties in Ohio, and with the unofficial figures from the remaining counties Got. McKin ley'a plurality is placed at 83,791, and his majority over all at 30,000. The Senate will stand : Republicans 26; Democrats, 5. House: Repub licans, 86; Democrats, 21. COLORADO. Complete returns from the interior of the State clearly demonstrrte tbat the People' party is no longer a fac tor in Colorado politics and the Re publican party is once more in con trol. The silver issue of last year carried the Populist into power. The leading raining towns, with a few ex ceptions, returned their usual Repub lican majorities this year, and in counties where they were formerly strong the Populists elected their tickets by greatly reduced majorities. IOWA. The official figures will undoubted- ly give oacKson. uep., over .tsoies, Dero., for Governor, a majority of 35,000, which will be increased to 40,000 on the balance of the State ticket, as Jackson runs behind bis ticket abcut four to a precinct. The Republicans will have a majority of between 30 and 40 on joint ballot, thus insuring the re-election of Wil son, United Slates Senator. MASSACHUSETTS. lhe Republicans have swept the State as clean as they used to do twenty years ago before anything like a formidable opposition had arisen to to dispute their political supremacy Greenhalge, Rep., for Governor, will Lave a majority of 36,000, and the legislature will stand 33 Republicans to 7 Democrats in the Senate, aud Republican majority of 135 in House. tbi new jersey. The Republicans have -captured both houses of the State legislature in New Jersey by good majorities, and it may be set down as foregone that 80DJ6 of the horrible laws passed by ibe Democrats in the past few years will have to go. The people have demanded tbis if tbe great turn over of last week is any indication of their feeling on the subject. NEBRASKA. Official returns from 77 out of the 90 counties in Nebraska give Harri son, Republican candidate for Su preme Judge, 61,962 aud Holcomb, Populist, 53,530. Tbe counties yet to be beard from will reduce the plu rality a little, but not enough to ma terially change these figures. The Republican nominee for regents were also elected. KANSAS. Tbe same story of great victories for the Republicans is applicable to the vote in Kansas, where tbe Populist is wont to bloom and flourish. The Re publicans have carried the state by good majorities, while the Democrat to vote is eo small as to be hardly worth couotiug. That big striped beast, the Tam many tiger, got many additiona stripes on luesaay, well laid on Think of it! Brookliu carried by tl Republicans and Independent Demo orapj. Tbe State Republican, witb two-thirds majority in both branches of the Assembly. This means much It means, among other tilings, the re peal of election laws by which Tam many has trampled on home rule an defeated the will of the people. The People's Party candidates for Stnto Treasurer and upreme Judge received respectively 11 and at Balltown, one of the Howe township precincts. The vote in that precinct would ot have changed the general result. Coons are plenty again tbis fall, while the poultry stock is correspond- ngly small. The new tariff (free trade) bill of the Democrats will soon be ready for presentation to Congress. Some- ody will have burnt Sogers. The people are not in a mood for tariff tinkering just at present aud that warning of last week ought to be suf- cient. Governor McKinley discourages the celebration of the election victory n Ohio and suggests tbat instead the money be given to relieve the poor. In the midst of so much distress be thinks it out of place to celebrate. Such suggestions will not tend to de- ract from his popularity. Blizzard. Of course no election is complete until some reference is made to the smoke of the battle." Perhaps tbat from last Tuesday's contest will be sufficiently dispelled by the time Con- gres reconvenes to enable tbe law makers to see that there is no demand for very much tariff tinkering just at present. Blizzard. Queen Liliuokai.ani is to be re stored to the Hawaiian thrown by tbe Cleveland administration, which was to be expected from an administra tion which hauled down the Ameri can flag.
