The foregoing constitutes the list of
vigilance committeemen. Lot us hear a
good report from all quarters. Let each
individual make it his personal business
to see that every vote is out on election
day. This is your duty, and I hope it
will be a pleasure to yon. The cam
paign is now virtually in your hands,
ond whatever the result depends largely
an your individual efforts from this on.
Work together harmoniously and Bee if
you cannot make an extra nice showing
tor the entire ticket in vour several dis
tricts. The result will 'be the election of
our whole ticket by good majorities.
J. I. sVoons, Chairman.
Republican's Stand Firmly by Your
Comity Ticket.
Tbe time for argument bag passed,
and there remains only the plain du
of all Republicans to make a bold
and maDly stand for their ticket from
this on till the polls close next Tuesday
eveniDg. A few words in the way of
a review of that ticket will not be
amiss at this time.
FOR FBOTHONOTARY, JtC.
For tbe office of Prothonolary,
Register, Recorder and Clerk of tbe
Courts, the Republican party has a
candidate who has been tried and not
found wanting. Calvin M. Arner has
for two terms served the people well
and acceptably, his administration of
the important office foi which tbe peo
ple have a third time nominated him
being satisfactory to all regard
less of party afflictions. Courteous
and gentlemanly in his treatment of
those hiving business to transact
there he has made himself popular
with all, and he will be supported by
many outside his party on account of
hu personal popularity. Mr. Arner
takes special delight in making peo
ple feel at home when they have oc
casion to do business at his office, aud
lends them every assistance in bis
power to expedite tbeir busiuess when
called upon to do so. Many of tbe
old veterans have learned to ap
preciate this fact when having their
pension vouchers executed at his of
fice, and be has never charged one of
them a cent for his trouble, notwith
standing the law allows him to charge
a regular fee were he so inclined.
The boys will remember him at the
polls with a whooping big majority
next Tuesday, and be will not disap
point them in his future administra
tion of that office.
FOB 8HEIUFF.
For Sheriff the Republican party
nominated Harry Maze of Jcnki
township, by a good and decisive ma
jority at tbe primaries last June
Since that time he has conducted a
quiet, orderly and gentlemanly cam.
paign for the office for which the par
ty nominated him. Of his capabili.
ties there is no question, and that Ik
will make ao obliging aud paiustak
ing official there is also no doubt
Warm-hearted and agreeable towarc
his fellowmen, Harry has few real
enemies wherever he is known. A
Forest coroty boy, born and reared
be has a claim on the party and the
citizeus of the county which eutitle
him to a united and hearty support.
No person could go to Harry Maze
in distress and be turned away with
out receiving his aid, and his last
loaf of bread would be shared with
the needy. The large vote he receiv
ed at the primaries at his home where
he is best known fully attests his
popularity among the people, and is
the best evidence of his worthiness as
a man and citizen. Mr. Maze will
make a faithful officer and will con
duct the duties of his office with fair
ness to all parties, in an orderly man
ner, with ere lit to himself and with
out ostentation or great fuss. The
party 'will stand by Harry because he
is deserving of its support and be
cause when elected he will faithfully
serve the people.
COUNTY COMMISSIONER.
For the important office of County
Commissioner the Republican party
nominated two gentlemen in every
way fitted for the duties of that posi
tion, W. M. Coon of Barnott and XV.
A. Connely of Hickory. W. M.
Coon is one of the active, energetic
and sensible citizens of Barnett town
ship, whose neighbors showed their
faith in his worthiness by an excel
lent support at the primaries, be
haviug received the vote of every
Republican in bis township but two,
aud these he lost by mistake, as the
parties who cast them were bis warm
est supporters. Morris is one of
those quiet gentlemen who makes no
long speeches but does a heap of
thinking, and his conclusions are gen
erally correct and fair. He has had a
large experience in township affairs,
having always taken a lively interest
in matters pertaining to the welfare
of the people and the upbuilding of
his community. A Republican from
way back, he deserves and will re
ceive hearty support of his party
throughout the county. He has abil
ity, honeety and firmness to make a
good manager of the affairs of the
county, and the people will honor
themselves by honoring him.
V. A. Coonely is a man of the peo
ple ; straight-forward in his business
transactions and faithful to the dis
cbarge of every duty entrusted to
bim. With him in the Commission
ers' office the people can rest assured
they have a man who cannot be
swerved from what is right and just
to all parties. Almost from boyhood
he has been placed in positions of re
sponsibility iu township affairs, and
has had to do with matters of great mo
ment to the taxpayers, and yet he has
never been blamed for doing an un
fair or dishonorable act iu the dis
charge of his duties. His frequent
and repeated election to positions of
trust iu his township fully attests tbe
confidence the people repose in him.
Mr. Coonely is not a policy man, and
it bas never been said of bim that he
would court the good opinions of any
body for mere personal popularity.
So with Coon and Cnnuely in the
Commissioners' office the taxpayers
of the county may rest assured tbeir
interests will be looked after faith
fully and well. Rich and poor will
be put on an equal footiug, with each
bearing his share of taxation and no
more. The people should stand by
and elect them, and we have reason
to believe they will,
COUNTY AUDITOR.
The Republican party has named two
most excellent young men for these
positions, Messrs M. . Abbott of
East Hickory, and W. L. Stroup, of
Howe township. Two more capable
gentlemen could scarcely be found,
and as neither has opposition both
will be elected, and the people will
have reasou to bo proud of them
when they are once tried.
JURY COMMISSIONER,
J. B. Carpenter of Kiogsley town
ship is tbe party's candidate for Jury
Commissioner. As in the case of tbe
Auditors he will be elected, there be
ing two to elect, and but one other
candidate for tbe place. "Doc,"
as his friends are pleased to familiar
ly call bim deserves the support of
his party to a man, and will always
be found faithful in the discharge of
bis duties.
Thus we have gone through with
the ticket, and we feel confident the
people will bear us out in all that we
bare said concerning the candidates.
It now remains for tbe party to stand
shoulder to shoulder in this campaign.
Every member of the party must lay
aside whatever trifling prejudice be
may have iu the matter and give the
candidates his earnest support. This
is not a year for bickering or back
biting; we have bad enough of that in
tbe past, aud it now becomes the du
ty of every loyal Republican to sac
rifice any little personal feeling,
should be have any, and support tbe
ticket from top to bottom. In tbe
light of events iu the past six months
and tbe present conditiou of tbe
couutry we don't tbink that is a very
difficult thing for Republicans to do
this year.
Vote straight, Republicans.
Mayor Harrison Murdered.
Tbe city of Chicago was convulsed
Saturday evening by the intelligence
that Carter II. Harrison, five times
mayor of Chicago, and one of the
best known men in tbe west, had been
shot by a crazy crank and lay in the
throes of death, at his home on South
Ashland avenue. Tbe murder was
committed about 8 o'clock by Eugene
Tat rick Prendergast, a paper carrier,
who declared that Mayor Harrison
had promised to make him corpora
tion counsel and had not kept his word.
This be said was the ouly reason fir
committing the crime. Mr. Harri
son was at his heme when (he mur
derer tallied aud asked to see bim.
When the mayor walked into the
hall the murderer, without warning
fired three shots at him each oue tak
ing effect. Mr. Harrison lived but
two hours. Prendergast hurried to
the police station and gave himself
up. He is a crank of the Guiteau
stripe, and his devilish crime has giv
en the country its worst shock since
that awful murder.
Well that awful Sherman act is at
last repealed, after 12 long weeks of
dilly-dallying. Now what's going to
happen T
Republicans, our last admonition
to you is, don't split your ticket. It
don't pay.
When Baby was sick, we gave her Castoria.
When the was a Child, she cried for Castoria,
When she became Miss, she clung to Castoria.
When the had Children, she gave them Castoria.
