The names of Pennsylvania post
offices have recently been uudergoing
a transformation. Borough aod
burgh, must be "boro" and "burg."
This saves a good doal of extra spell
iog and is a sensible change.
The ladies uf the borough have
arrauged to give a basket picnic at
the band platform next Friday after
noon to Ilia Keeley Ioslilute students
and their frieifls. Each lady is ex
pected to briofia batket, table cloth
aud half doify plates, knives and
forks. Diuner will be served at 5:30
p. ut. A pleasant time is anticipated.
Last Friday's Pittsburg papers
reported that Jacob Vassan was lyiug
in a critical coudiiiun from the effects
of a blow over the head, which he
alleges Iawruuco Grubbs dealt him
with a bar ot irou during a quarrel on
the previous Weducaday. Vassan bud

sum of 11,000 bail to await a bearing.

leased the Lawrence House barn and
will start livery, expecting to have a
number of horses and rigs ready for
busiuess in a few days, lie will also
conduct a billiard hall in the room
occupied by Whiteman's cigar factory,
as soon as the adjoining building can
be enlarged sufficiently to accommo
date Mr. W.'s increasing busines.
The excursion to Chautauqua last
Saturday was well patronized by the
people of Tidioute, Hickory and Tio
nesta, five crowded coaches leaving
the depot at this place. When at Oil
City two coaches were added, which
gave all a comfortable scat. The best
of time was made both going and
coming, the return trip being made in
less than three hours. A giod time is
reported by all who went.
Warren couuty will bold its fair
this year on Sept. 13, 14, 15 and 16,
at the handsome fair grounds at
Warren. The association expects to
give the people a better exhibition in
all departments this season than ever
before, which will require a good deal
of effort, for they have never had any
poor fairs there, and those who attend
will be well rewarded fur the time and
money spent.
The school board of Tionesta
township met last Saturday and elected
teachers as follows : Hunter Station,

Joyce; Jamieson, Minnie Shaw key;
Pigeon Hill, Robert Stitiiuger; Ger

Wm. C. Hilanda Esq , uncle of
Mrs. D. W. Clark aud W. A. Hilands,
is paying a visit to Tionesta as the
guest of Mrs. Clark's family. It has
been thirty five yeais since he left this
section of couutry, which tirao he has
speul mostly on the Pacific coast. He
sees many changes in the place since
theu,ud finds few of tho old timers
with whom he spent many of his
younger days, but those who are left
are pleased to nolo his good health

The Railroad is being rapidly pushed
through to the mouth of Ross Run, C, F.
(Jillespie, M. F. Catlin and Jeff. Dean, all
bustlers, have about li men each. Ry
election day we will probably hear the
gentle toot of the locomotive as it rush as
by us. The only objection with us is we
have so far to go at train time.

Win. J. I.ainberton, of Denver, Col.,
one of the well known Lauiberton family
of Franklin, was fatally injured in a fall
from a street car on .Saturday last. Hia
remains were brought to Franklin for

tho wounds Inflicted by tho anarchist
rterginau. He is able to go to his ollice
and transact business. Warrants have
been issued against him and a number of
ot tiers of the Carnegie Co. on charges sim
ilar to those preferred ogninst the leaders
of the Homestead workmen.
An exchange claims that sufferers from
hay fever and asthma will find great relief
in a tea inado of dried chestnut leaves.
They should lie gathered now, when tho
tree is in blossom. The tea is used as
often as you wish for several weeks beforo
the time to take tho fever. It will afford

A painter brought in a largo wooden
American eagle used for a sign, tho largo
benk of which had been broken off. Mr.
Hughes made a new beak of tin of Amer
ican manufacture, tho sheet from which
tiro beak was made being manufactured at
Pittsburg and coated at Philadelphia. Mr.
Hughes says that if tho American eagle is
to be repaired it ought to be done with

At an early hour. Friday morning a
commercial travelor who was walking
from Htoneboro to Sandy Iako In order to
transact some business before the train
left for tho westward, discovered the dead
Usly of a man lying nn the Iako Shore
Railroad track, a short distance west of
Sandy Iako station. Those who soon ar
rived on tho spot found that it was tho
body of Hillings Walker, son of tbe late
C. H. Walkor, ol Sandy Ijike. Tho back
of the head was crushed in and there ivoro
bruises on tho head and shoulders. It
was thought from indications that death
had occurred within an hour or two.
Walker, who was a painter by trade, was
almut thirty-five years of ago and was
married.

lino from tho noithern oil Held to the
Hudson River. The lino will consist ol
two 4-inch pipes, one for ertido and the
other for refined oil. It wilt start at
llrsdfbrd, Pa., and run directly eastward
through Potter, Tioga, Rradford, Susqiio
lianna and Wayne counties, to a point at
or near Hancock, N. Y. : thonco it will
follow the liue to N'ewburg, on tho Hud
son river, wliero it is proposed to erect re
fineries where tho nil can bo shipped to
New York by car or bout. Tho lino will
bo 212 miles long, and will cost about
11,200,000. It is backed by the P. P. A.,
and is oxpocted to bo in operation next
