Mr. Andrew McCray't condition has not improved since he was report ed dangerously ill, but on the contrary he has been for several days gradually failing, and bis friends have little hope of bis recovery. Will Morrow, who has spent the past year aud a half in Pittsburg, where he fiuished bis pharmaceutical studies, returned home last eveoing for a few week's stay. Will is now a full fledged druggist. If it's any more torrid than here just tt this time we sympathize with 'em. At an election of officers of the Bi Chloride of Gold Club last evening, II. J. Fisher was elected President ; Will F. Bradley, Vice President, od W. J. Taylor, Ass't Secretary. The club is in a most flourishing condition and the meetings are full of interest and well attended. All the students at the Institute are getting along nicely, are in good health, and con tented. Our citizens were much grieved to lea rn on Sabbath morning that Station Agent J L. Craig had been prostrated by a paralytic stroke during the preceding night, and that his life was almost despaired of. Later re ports, however, were more favorable, and at tbia writing we are pleased at being able to report him rapidly con valescing, with good prospects of final recovery. Sam. Q Clark is developing rap idly as a scientific fisherman. Last Saturday he took bis fly rod and spent part of the day up the river, returning in the evening with 25 pounds of bass, there being nine in number, and weighing all the way from 1 to 3 pounds each. Some day Bam. may be U. 8. 8enator or President, like Quay or Cleveland, who are adept! at "casting a fly." Mrs. I. About two weeks ago Mrs. M. Andrews, Pott mistress at Kellettville, lost a pocket book containing money aud papers to the value of about $500. Yesterday she made information be fore Justice Selley charging James Carson, mail carrier between Tionesta and Kellettville, with the theft. Mr. Caison gave bail in the sura of (200 for his appearance at court. He stout ly maintains his innocence, and de clares his ability to prove himself so when placed on trial. Mr. C has heretofore sustained a good reputation for honesty and integrity. The weather of (he past week has been hot. This may not be news to people hereabout, but it's a fact just ihe same, and facts are what count in the conduct of a reliable newspaper. Each day seems to have grown a little hotter, and, therefore, dryer, so that just now you can bet your bottom dollar there has been no growling about broken windows by careless snow bailers, or of sidewalk coasters. Aud with the mercury dancing around all the way from 96 to 100 degrees in the shade the ice harvest may as well be classed amoug the dismal failures along with the Delaware peach crop. Yesterday about the noon hour, the house owned by Mr. Emick and occupied by John Wilson, located near the head of Holeman run in Harmony township, caught fire from a defective flue and burned to the ground. All of Mr. Wilson's house hold goods, except a bedstead and the contents of one bedroom, were de stroyed. There was no assistance at hand and everything about the prem ises being as dry as tiuder, it was im possible for the family to do auythiog to stay the flames. The family were just sealing themselves at the dinner table when the fire was discovered. The house, which formerly belonged to the late August Weingard, was valued at about (600. We are unin formed as to whether or not there was any insurance on the building; Mr. Wilson bad none on his goods. A delightful day's outing at Chautauqua Lake. The W. N. Y. & P. R. The accident hap pened about 10:30 a. ru., while the Doctor was on hi way to attend a professional call at Haskell's mill. Mra. S. and their little boy accompa nied him for a ride; when near Wil kinson's house, the horse became frightened at some object and was doing his best to get away from the doctor, turning out of the road at that place and throwing the three occupants of the boggy violently to the ground. Mrs. Slonecipher struck on the back of her head rendering ber uoconscious, from which canditioo she did not recover, although every effort that human skill could command was em ployed while life remained, which was several hours after the dreadful acci dent. The doctor wai quite severely, though not seriously, injured, while the child escaped unhurt. This very sad affair has cast a deep gloom over the entire community in which the family reside, and the sym pathy expressed for the doctor wherever he is known is of the most genuioe and sincere nature. Mrs. Stonecipber wai an oroameut to the society in which she moved, beloved and respect ed by all, aod upon her husband a heavier blow could scarcely fall. She leaves, besides the heavily stricken husband, two children, one a boy somewhat over two years of age, the other an infant daughter, aged about eight months. Mrs. Stonecipber was a uative of Armstrong county, her former home being near Kittanniog, whither her remains were conveyed on Saturday for interment on Sabbath following. My health has been vory poor for a longtime, huving beon sick nine months out of twelve Kansas has put on lior beautiful garmouts in the shape of a wonderful crop this year. We think it is tho best that lias ever boon raised in the .State. Our harvest is in full blast just now. Wheat is an abundant crop throughout the state, aud will average thirty bushels to the acre. Many farmers will have from forty to forty-livo bushels to the acre. Corn will also bo an Immense crop, and others accordingly. Just now we aro passing through a heated term. The mercury at noon to-day registers 100. You will say that is pretty warm ; yes, it is hot. 1 presuuio Tionesta is sharing with us. Politically, it is exceedingly hot. A thing has happened to our State that has not as yet occurred in any other State; that is, we have no Democratic party in the State of Kansas. The Demo cratic convention met in Tnpeka last Thursday, and accepted the Pcoplo's party platform ; swallowed tho "wholo hog," bristles, tail and all, voting to fuse with that party and to vote for James R. Woavor. So out goes the Democratic party from Kansas. A great many of the poor Democrats are very sick indeed over it when they see how the matter really appears, and the real facts show them selves; a good many in our city have clo dded to vote tho Republican ticket this fall. The object of tho fusion is to turn the doctoral vote of Kansas into the Dem ocrats' hands. We have a big light on hands, but by God's help Kansas will stay iu the Republican fold. Now, Mr. Editor, you may think that I have turned politician. I have nut, but I, as an American citizen, have au Interest in this tho greatest of countries ou Clod's footstool, and it is my business and duty to do my share In siipiortiiig this great nation. 1 am a Republican, whole hearted.
