-The M arienville Express reports
another accident to a child of James
Thomas, who not long ago lost one by
being scalded to death : On last Sat
urday morninc. April 23. at Haskell's
mill a little son of James Thomas was
run over by a loaded wagon, injuring
him badly. The wagon was driven by
a man in the employ of Haskell's and
was loaded with coal. The teamster
did not see the little fellow until too
late to avoid the accident. He will
recover.
The April oil report shows 168
completed wells, CS61 barrels new pro
duction, 33 dry holes, and 330 wells
drilling and tigs up. Compared with
the previous month this is an increase
of 19 in completed wells, decrease of
I M00 barrels new production, decrease
of 1 in dry holes, and a deercuse of 32
in rigs and drilling wells. The report
is bullish and would indicate a rise in
prices, but whether this much desired
result will be realized is quite another
conundrum.
Clarion, which lavs out iu the

to let the cattle roam on her streets.
Clarion is a town of 1500 or 2000 in
habitants, the county seat and largest
town in the county; with' a State
Normal school, one of the fiuest in the
Commonwealth, and many wide awake,
wealthy and progressive citizens, and
hy shouldn t cattle be allowed to

The special representative, with a full
voting outtit, who is engaged in giving
a practical demonstration of the
method, will be in Tionesta ou Tuesday,
May 17, and as that date falls on

avail themselves of the opportunity
thus afforded to test the workings of
the new law. Those wishing to cast a

The roads throuehout Tioneela
township are already in a very fine
condition, made so by the prompt use
of the big scrapers as soon as the
weather became fairly settled. A very
little attention from this ou will keen
tbem in first class condition during the
summer season, aud with a proper
care in the fall, good roads are assured
during the eutire winter. It is a
source of much gratification to note
the general improvement of the public
highways all over our county, and the
tendency of officials to keep thera so.

The warm rain makes the lawns smile

The fourth contest for the Demor
est silver medal is booked for Friday
evening next, at the M. E. Church.
The contesting class hai been carefully
traiued by Mrs. Seigel, and will doubt
leas acquit themselves with much
credit, while a musical clats of some
thirty or upward of young folks,
which has been rehearsing for the past
ten day, will add much to the enter
tainment of the audience, which is
likely to be a large one. Those who
have witnessed the former contests

The borough schools closed Mon
day. In the evening, ot the hall, a
public exhibition was given by the
pupils and teachers, which was attend
ed by a packed house. The exercises
consisted of dialogues, essays, recita
lions, declamations, etc., interspersed
with appropriate music, and the entire
performance was a decided credit to
those taking part. The graduating
class Ben. Davis, Russell Dingman
and Mary Rumberger received their
diplomas, after each had given a reci
tation, which were received with en
thusiastio applause. To sura up the
past winter's work in a word, it can
be said the schools have been a most
decided success, and should the present
efficient corps of teachers be retained
for another term we believe our people
would be thoroughly satisfied. When
you have a good thing keep it, is a good
motto to hold to especially in the
matter of selecting teachers. The
school board cannot go amiss iu te-
taining the teachers of the past winter.
Struck by Lightning
Yesterday about 3 p. m., duriug the
storm, the barn of Win. Hood, whose
farm is a mile from town, on the Ne
braska road, was struck by lightning
and burned to the ground. Mr. Hood,
who was at home with his family at
the time, went to the door and looked
around alter the report from the
lightning's bolt had subsided, but saw
Dothing unusual. In a moment after
wards, however, he discovered smoke
issuing irom nis Darn, situated near
the public road. Rushing out he
found utmost the whole inside iu a
blaze of fre, and he had barely time
to rescue his team of horses, which
had been hitched in their stalls with
harness ou shortly befure. All the
contents of the barn were destroyed
with it. Only the day before Mr. H.
had brought his hay from another
barn and placed it in this one, and
had also brought in a lot of seed oats
a few days previous. His loss will be
between $300 and $400, with 00 insur
auce.

The death of Boon Magee, one of
