Neely of Clarion, Harry Alvin Hall of Elk, G. W. Huntley of Cameron, and J. B. Watson of Forest. There is a tough scramble for the dace between Elk and Clarion, but it is altogether likely the former will get the plum, the Hall faction being hard to "down" in a Democratic convention. The conference again met at Kane yesterday, but up tn tho hour of going to press no Dews had been received here. McKmn Minn: Tho Rochester Drmoernt fays it is stated on good authority that the lainous Kiur.ua Viaduct is soon to bo removed, because it is not heavy enough for tho rapidly increasing tralllc carried over it. Tho span Is over a deep gorgo formed by Kinztia Creek. It Is 2,052 feet long, and 301 feet above tho water. It was built for a singto track at a cost of $2:17,000. It con sists of twenty towers, each 10 feet by 3SJ inches at tho top, anil of varying width at tho bottom, the highest being 10.1 feet by 18J feet at tho base. Theso towers are built of Phoenix iron columns in 30 feet sections, ami connected by Internal wrought Iron sleeper joints. Tho viaduct was designed to hold n weight of 2t'd tons. This Is crpial to a load of 8,073 pounds por lineal Toot of track. I his viaduct carries a branch of tho New York, Lake Erio & Western from the petroleum fields of Mc Kean county to tho coal fields of Elk county. It Is tho highest structure of tho kind iu tho world. It was commenced May 5, 1882, and completed August 2", 1882 in less than four months. There is some question as to whether tho viaduct will bo replaced or a detour mado In the line of tho road. When tho viaduct was first contemplated it was found that tho detour would cost 1,000 more than tho viaduct, but if tho viaduct is builtof hoav lor material it may bo found that it will cost moro than to mako the dotour. The viaduct for vears has been ono of tho famous bridges of tho world, and has been visited and examined by many eminent engineers and railroad men of this and otlior countries. lU'CKI.EN'.S AKMCA HAI.VK.
