Mrs. Clinton Bryan died at her home in Weft Hickory, ou the 12th inst., after an illness of several months hiie was aged oi yearn, and leaves a liuabntiil ami little sail, besides a large circle of friends to mourn Ler death. Billy" Ditkragerand "Harumy" Foreman returned on Saturday last from a fjur month's stay at Grandin, Mo , where they had been working at the carpenter trade for n largo lumber firm. 'Squire W. J. Foreman of Hickory, who wai also out, returned several weeks ago. the Meadville Gazette reports that "aidangerous team, consisting of a horso and an aa, went down Chest nut street a few days ago at a fast gait. Tho horse drew tho buggy aud the ass held thu lioes aud plied the whip." Such teams are frequently seen in more places tliau Meadville. Rev. A. S. Stewart of Rimers burg, Pa., has becu engaged by Capt. George Stow Post to preach the Me uiorial Senium on ueit Sabbath at 3 o'clock p. ru. The services will be held in the School House, and all are cordially invited to attend, especially the G. A. R. and (he old soldiers. We might about o well keep this item standing f. oin all appearances The liver and creek are again on a tremendous "high," bigger than at any tims this year, and all owing to the iucesaaut rain of Mouday and Monday night. The river, which is bank full nod ruouing over, has commenced falling this morning. Snake stories are coming la early this season, and this one is vouched for by John Heath, and as Johu is "runuiu' for office," of course be wouldn't prevaricate. He tells us that Cod. and John Burheo, Ben. Weller and Jake Bush killed thirty ono rattlers a day or two ago, at a den near Ross Run, Kingsley township. J. F. Overlander has purchased the mercantile establishment of J. W Ball at the railroad station, acioss the river. James Morgan a former Tio oestan, and who has bad considerable experience ia the line, will have charge of the ttore, aud will oonduct it Ia first class ruanoer. Success to the new as well as the retiriog managers. Under date of May 14, the Pitts burgh Chronicle-Telegraph gives the following: "Jerry Murphy, who do sired to be sentenced to day in the Uoiled States District Court, was ao coumodatcd. He pleaded guilty to running a didlillery ia Forest couuty without paying the Government tax He said all he distilled was sassafras aud wintergreen and he didn't know that was wrong. He had never bceu in any trouble. He was fined $100 and ordered to be confined ia the jail of Forest county ono month." "Mother Goose and Family" by the M. E. Sabbath School, at the Rink last evening was one of the nicest en tertainments of the season, each part being exceptionally well taken. We'd like to give it a more extended notice but time and space will not allow; suffice it to say, if the school should decide to repeat the play at some fu ture time they will have a full house. As will be observed by reference to the proper place, Harry R. Wilson of Clarion, is this week announced as a Republican candidate for State Sen ator ia this district. Mr. Wilson does not wish to be considered in the atti tude of opposing any resident of this oounly who might want the instruc tions of the county, but simply aeks Forest's endorsement in the event that Bhc has no aspirant of her own. Tilusville Ilerald: David Emery is drilling a well near East Titusville. Hopkins & Bartlelt are building a rig for their No. 4 ou the David Tubbs farm, bear East Titusville. Duncan & Emery are drilling on (he Duncan farm, one mile cast of East Titusville. A. A. Hopkins brought in a well on tho Paul tract, Neilltown, Wednesday, good for 35 barrels. He is drilling another on the Gordon farm at Hick ory. Jacob Wagner Sr., of Tionesta township, was very badly bruised up in a ruuaway accident near his place on Monday afternoon of this week. The horse be was driving had not been hitched up for several day, and being quite fractious became unman ageable. We believo Mr. Wagner sustained no fractures, but will never theless be laid up for some time on account of his severe shaking up. It was he who had such a tough time with the burglars three years ago this month. Mr. J. P. Huliugs of Pleasant- ville, and Myrta Elder of East Brady, were joined in wedlock's silken bonds at 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening, May 7lb, at (he residence of Rev. S. T. Dean at Mayvillc, N. Y. They visit ed Niagara, Toronto, St. Catharines, and other points; and on Saturday evening last arrived it their future borne iu Pleasaotville. Preparations for houeo keepiog bad been looked after previous to the marriage, and they are now at home to their frieuds in the Siggins house, second door from the M. E. Church. May joy and prosperity be theirs. Pleatantville Record. We join Jared's many old friends here iu extending best wishes on this happy occasion. Cards announcing the marriage of C. M. Agnew Esq , and Miss Lizzie Imraer of Allegheny, on May 15th, were received by a large number of the friends of tbe young people bere on Monday moruiug. The ceremony, which was solemnized at tho bride's home, was a quiet afTiir, attended only by the immediate relatives of the con tracting parties und a few of their most intimate friends. It is needless to say that Mack aud bis fair lady have tho heartiest congratulations of his numerous friends iu this place on this occasion, and the Republican joins iu best wishes for a future of un alloyed happiucss and abundant pros pcrity. A correspondent of tbe Buffalo Evening Kew from Niagara Falls, gives thi remarkable piece of news: "Frank Russell, a barber at Niagara Fall, 6outh Ont., says he will walk the late Prof. Sieve Pier's cable, i of an inch thick, now stretched across the Niagara liver between the railroad suspension briJge and the cantilever He is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds. He proposes to make bis first trip May 24 about 3 o'clock from the Canadiau side. If successful he will walk it during the excursion season this year." Poor Frank! we feel as th-jugh we ought to ray good bye to you forever, 'cause you might make a mis step and plunk down into tbe raging Niagara, and what an awful hole you'd make in the water! We are glad to know, however, that Frank will continue his exhibitions "during the excursion season," for we'll slip up some day and see now he does it It will be the best drawing card Niag ara has had ia many a day. Ou Saturday last the Republican enjoyed a pleasant visit from Mr. A II. Jocelyn, of New York, ao old-lime oil operator of (his section, and Mr. Wm. Wood of Titusville, uow operat iog quite extensively ia this county. During Mr. Jocelyu'a stay in town be came iu poesessiou of a real curiosity, at the Central House, io the form of a piece of a petrified reptile of some sort. Tbe piece is about 15 inches in length, and about four inches in diam eter, being covered completely with soull indentations which run as regu larly as though put there by niucbiu ery, in fact no human hand could make so complete a job of it. Tbe vertiibrte, or backbone, is also plainly visible in the end of the "stone." To all appearances thia curiosity has at one time been a part of an immense reptile. At any rate Mr. J. considered it of sufficient impoitance to occupy a piace ia me leading itew York, mu seum of natural curiosities to which he expects to present it. Court Minutes. Judges of Quarter Sesn ions of the 1'eace in and for the County of Forest, May Sessions,'M x The Grand Inquest of the Common wealth for the County of Forest, in all mutters ralating to the same, do respectfully report, that they have acted upon three bills of indictment, of which three wero found true bills. We bejr leave to report that we have vlnited and Inspected the County buildings and find them generally in good repair, with the exception of the ceil in trs in the several Court offices, which are In need of repair. Also, we find Hint tho vault in the Prothon otary's office has become totally in adequate for the holding of the Public Record, and recommend that the same be enlarged and made fire proof. We further report that the river road, west side, lending from Hunter Run up the river to George King's farm in Harmony township, is in a bad condition, and unsafe for travel to the general public. We further find that the United Pipe Line Co., have run their pipes parallel and in many places on the Public Road, leading from Marien ville to Sheffield Junction, in Howe and Jenks townships, rendering the ame dangerous, and almost impassi ble in many places for travel, thereby greatly hindering with the proper re pairing of the same, and we deem the same to be a public nuisance. We respectfully tender our thanks to the Hon. Judges and District At torney for their courtesy and assis tance rendered us during our deliber ations. Jas. B. Musk, May 20, 1890. Foreman. A Former Forest Co. Boy Killed. On Saturday, the 10th, Burt S. Fer ry, whom many of tbe readers of the REruKLiCAN will re oi em lie r as the youngest son of Capt.
