It 19 going the rouudi of the news
papers that Tom Marshall, of Pitts
burgh, does Dot indorse 1'attison for
governor. Marshall played tho scala
wag in 1882, by going to the State
Convention as a delegate, voting for
the nomination of Beaver fur governor
and bolting tho ticket immediately
thereafter, and helping to elect Patti
son. If he has repented he will have
to be forgiven, but it will be safe to
keep an eye on him. A good many of
the officers of the John Stewart meet
ings ore seeking federal Appointments
as a reward for their party services.
Mcadvillc Gazette.
Wm. L. Scott SBys that Robert E.
Pattiaon phtill be the Democratic nom
inee for Governor ; Eckley I?. Coxe
and Congressman Kerr and various
other leaders say that William A.
Wallace shall bo the nominee ; Will
iam U. llenscl insists that Chauucey
F. Black shall be given the nomina
tion, and a great many of the rauk
and file, who do the voting, insist that
Robert P. Decherl or 11. Bruce Kick
etts shall be their candidato. It is
beginning to look as though Mr. Scott,
with the aid of Mr. llarrity and John
It. Bead, would win, but keep an eye
on the canny Scot from Clearfield.
Sk.nator Vest is trying to amend
the Inter-Stale Comruerce law so as to
include the express companies in its
provisions. Why it hasn't been done
before is ouo of the mysteries of legis
lation, but we suppose Congressmen
owned too much express stock. But
that they should come under the pro
visions of this law admits of no argu
ment. They are common carriers, are
inter state and whack on tho rates for
all or more than the traffic will stand,
at non-competitive points. The tantr
on many articles to Tidioute prohibits
their transportation, particularly early
vegetables and fruits, and as a conse
quence our markets are not what they
should be and the American express
company hasn't bead enough to accept
living rates, evidently preferring no
husincss to business at same rates
given adjoining competitive points.
Indeed we hope Senator Vest will pre
vail in his good work. Tidioute News
Tionesta suffers about the same
complaint that our neighbors up the
river do, and is compelled to pay out
rageous express rates. Anyway, take
the telegraph companies, the express
companies and the highway robbers
and without doubt tney make more
clear money than all other institutions
combined.

Republican County Committee.
The members of the Republican
County Committee of Forest County
are requested to meet at tlio Sheriff's
office, Tionesta, on Tuesday evening,
May 20, 18110, court week, for the pur
pose ot transacting such business as
may be brought before thera, and
making final arrangements for the
holding of the primaries, June 7tb,
1890. A full attendance ,is earnestly
requested.
A. J. Sigworth, Chairman,
There is scarcely any doubt but
ex Speaker Carlisle will be elected to
succeed the late U. S. Senator Beck
from Kentucky.
Govebnor Cami'bell, of Ohio, has
bis eye on the Democratic Presiden
tial nomination in 1892. Another
caie of the mustard seed iu a raiu
barrel.
Senator Quay intimated recently
that he will not vote for the House
pension proposition unless the age en
titling an'ez-soldier to a service pen
sion be placed at 50 instead of GO
years of age. He remarked that the
soldiers of Pennsylvania do not care
about being pensioned after they are
dead. An inveaiigutiou of the eubject
of longevity of tho ex-soldiers of the
State shows that sixty years is beyond
the limit. The Senator will make his
position understood when the measure
comes before the Senate. It is an in
teresting fact in connection with pen
sion legislation that the only two bills
ou that subject passed by the hut two
Cotigrcbses were those introduced by
Scustor Quay, granting increased pen
bioos for deafness tud total disability.
Warren, Venango and McKean
counties held their Republican pri
manes latt Saturday and . resulted in
placing good tickets in the field. Per
haps it was the hottest fight ever held
in War re d county, the fight being
mainly centered in the contests for the
offices of President Judge and State
Senator, resulting in the choice of
George II. Iliggins for the former
place, and the re-nomination of Senator
O. G. Allen f t the latter. The bal
aoce of the ticket is as follows: Cod
gress, Col. Watson ; Associate Judge,
Unit Marsh ; Assembly, G. U. Inomp'
son, re-nominated. Hon. Charles W.
Stone was unanimously endorsed for
Governor. In McKean county the
fight was almost equally as hot, the
contest being centered on Congress
and State Delegates. Latest' returns
indicate that Col. WaUen has the in
structions fromhatcounty thus giving
him a .le-C&tnioatiou in the district.
Sloue carried the county for Governor
according to latest figures, la e-
naneo county the principal light was
for State Delegates, and resulted in
tho choice of Senator Delamater's del
egates by decisive majorities. Ex-
Senator Lee received the instructions
for Congress.
