This, we should think, is a much more admira bio way of giving tho taxpayers an oppor tunity of seeing what has been done with their money during the past year, than the old-fashioned plan of nailing a flimsy sheet of poorly written manuscript on some scraggly old tree where the first gust of wind or fow drops of rain will demol ish or twist It out of all recognition. Tho man who pays taxes year In and year out has a right to know what is being done with it, and he ought not to be compelled to hunt for that information In tho back woods or by the roadside, but should bare the opportunity of taking a peep at the report in his leisure momenta, by his own cheerful fireside. The cost of publication Is little more than by the "hand-bill" method, and surely gives groater satisfaction. Stewarts Run. At her home In Hickory twp., this county, Wednesday, March 12, 1S!H) Margaret, wife of .lames Brown, agod 83 years, fi mos. and 20 days. 1IILLARD. Ruby St. Clairp, youngost daughter of R. J. and M. A. Millard, at Clarington, March 0, 18!W,of peritonitis, ngpd 8 years and 16 days. Tho deceased was ill tor only 4 days and suffered terribly from tho progress of tho diseuso that carried her away. During her illness she exhibited a patience that seem ed to belong to more mature years, and a consideration for those attending her that evinced great unselfishness. The young est by a number of years of 12 children, livo of whom are now dead, she occupied a peculiarly endearing position in, and re lation to the rest of, the family. And this relation makes her death tho more sad and sorrowful. None but those that have mot with such a loss can appreciate tho extreme anguish and keenness of tlio grief to a family and parents thus boreaved. To die at any time is sad and awful ; to die in youth unusually so; and the death of children affects us as other deaths do not. We recognize death as tho enemy of tho race the despoilcr of our peace. Life means all of earthly good. There is some thing wonderfully hopeful and inspiring in the gladness and assurance with which the child anticipates and moves toward tl le future. There is something wonderfully sad and pathetic in scoing all these vanish as a dream tho little hands and feet al ways ho active now at rest forever; the little lips closed never to open with prat tle or smile again ; tho life gone out not to return ; tlio spirit, so akin to Him who gave it, hushed into a silence that is un broken as days come and go. It is very touching to see tho little feet turned back, and tho litb go out of sight behind the darkness that sepa rates timefroin eternity. Hut if the vjll were litted and our vision enlarged wo might understand these things better. It may not bo that because a lite ends early here the same life would not have endbd well if prolonged. Hut who knows the deeds of goodness and tho labor of lovo theso occupy in tho grander life that lies beyond. Going back to Him un tainted, unbroken, uumangled by willful, persistent, rebellious sin they occupy a peculiar placo in Uis presence. We griove over our loss and aro long in being recon ciled. The tie that binds us to our depart ed ones is a tender one ; it would be wrong to sever it. Hut we are comforted by His words, and glorified voices among which we recognize familiar tones, and a celes tial vision iu which a familiar form ap pears, softens our sadness, and our tears flow less bitter as wo read, "Of such Is the kingdom." Funeral services conducted bv Rov. Pol lard were held iu the M. E. Church on Sunday afternoon, March 9. The large at tendance at the funeral showed the esteem in which the deceased was held, and ex pressed a hearty sympathy for the parents and family in their bereavement. Young ladies Bchoul fellows of the deceased older In years than she, actod as pall-bearers, and the body was iuid to rest, in hope of a glorious aud immortal restoration.
