and the laurels fall to the Republi
cans. General Harrison is elected
President of the United States, and
Levi P. Morton Vice President. Tbey
carry the electoral votes of Colorado,
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine,
Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota,
Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire,
New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylva
via, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wiscon
sin, which give tbem 225 sure, and the
probabilities are we have got Califor
nia also, but returns are yet meagre.
The New York Democratic papers,
the Sun, Timet, Herald and World,
concede the election of Harrison, and
Chairman Quay authorizes the follow
ing statement, and when he authorizes
the publication of a statemeut on re
sults, rest assured it is correct:
"The Republicans on Tuesday, car
ried by increased majorities, all the
States that were carried for Mr. Blaioe
in 1884, and in addition, have New
York by a plurality of 15,000, and
Indiana by a plurality of from 4,000
to 6,000. West Virginia is in duubt.

Pennsylvania rolls up in the neigh
borhood of 70,000 majority for Har
risoo, and makes a net gain of one
congressman.
It is also beliered that the Repub
licans have gained a majority in the
fifty-first congress, and two U. S. Sen
ators. At all events, Free Trade has been
dealt a deadly blow in America, and
Protection has come to stay. This is
glory enough for one day, and the
Democrats ought to be happy with the
Republicans, for they are saved along
with the country.

Little Forest Still The Banner.
The result in Forest County is most
gratifying. It could not be more so.
The vote on the National ticket is a
full hundred greater, if not more, than
that given to Blaine io '84, while our
majority is almost, if not quite, a
hundred larger than last year. This
ought to secure to Forest County one
of the four banners offered by Chair
man Cooper to the county showing op
the best in the old Keystone State.
Mr. Randall is re elected by a good
majority, although not so large by 10
as two years ago. This is not strange
when it is taken into account that not
half the fight was made for bim this
time, for the simple reason that the
Republicans did not deem it necessary
considering bis election secure at all
events. This over-confident feeling
might have proved disastrous under
the circumstances, and it won't do to
let it occur again as we may not al
ways escape so easily. Mr. Bowman,
the Democratic candidate, was, per
sonally, a very popular candidate,
against whom no one could nor would
say a word. But of all things, we
hope never to bear of Kepler raising
the howl of "corruption funds or jugs'
against any party again, after the ex
perience of last Tuesday's election,
and which is so notorious all over the
county, and heard on every hand. He
put his trust in barrels of money and
jugs of wbUkey, and the o'd fellow!
hair must be pulling hard this morn
ing. Chairman Sawyer's conduct of
HAS GKROWIST
the campaign was quiet, orderly and
respectable, without much fuss or
flourish, and the result is a splendid
showing on the general round-up. Be
has the thanks of all good Republi
cans for the respectable campaign in
this county.
One of the most gratifying and
pleasant features in this campaign is
the splendid showing in Jenks and
Green townships, until this election
always strongly Democratic. Jenks
wheels into line with 50 Republican
majority, while Green turns a fine
somersault and lands squarely in the
Republican column. The young Re
publican blood came to the front in
gallant style. On the whole it was a
grand triumph for the Banner County,
and when the returns are all in we
think she will still be "thar." All
honor to the boys who helped in this
grand work.
SCATTERING VOTES.

One more endorsement of Kepler by
a handful of selp appointed committee
men will just about make Forest coun
ty nnanimously Republican.
We understand "The Chairman"
got his "leg pulled" for a hundred or
two on bets he made with the boys
next morning after the election, but
closed bis "barl" when Jenks came in.
Kepler the Jonah of Forest county's
Democracy, was puked out into the
Sickles swamp, back of "Democratic
Headquarters" last night after the
news came in from Green. The same
news also broke op the dance which
was in high glee at that time.
The very pines, hemlocks and hard
woods of Jenks Township cried out in
thundering tones against Free Trade.
Such a groundswell as that and the
one in Green is enough to strike terror
to the most unterrified.
The money was all right, but where
were the "brains" in this campaign T

majority is 58. The Republican National

will the balance of the State ticket when
the complete vote is in. 8. D. Irwin Esq.,
was put in the Held by the Democrats at a
late hour and supported largely by that
party for District Attorney against Mr.
