Miss Milly King, of Kane, is

the teamsters use their wagons now

want of snow.
It was two years Monday that the
community was horrified by the news
of the Everbart murder; that is, the
murder occurred on Monday, although
the 8th was the date. And yet tbe
public is as much io the dark -as ever
os to tbe perpetrator of the frightful
butchery. Tbe horror of the crime is
nearly equaled by the suocees with
which the guilty one or ones bave cov
ered up their tracks.
Mr. Lewis Keister, of East Hick
ory, was in town yesterday and gave
us a pleasant call. Mr. Keister has
taken the contract of rafting and run
ning tbe lumber manufactured by
Collins, McCain & Co., at Nebraska,
besides tbe boats and other stuff which
tbe firm will put out in the next year.
It is a big job, but we ventere to say
Mr. K. will get through with it to tbe
satisfaction of bis employers.
Tbe Republican acknowledges a
pleasant visit from Messrs. W. M.
Wilson and W. F. Russell of Phila

Forest county lands, and were bere
looking after the asme last week. Tbey

the eastern gentlemen that their lands
are underlaid with rivers of oil

in favor of plaintiff wbo got a verdict
of $24. Court then adjourned. Pro
thonotary Arner performed his new
and rather arduous duties in excellent
style, and received many compliments
for tbe ease jcith which he got along
with the busiuess. Tbe familiar form
of Mr. James A. Scott io his old posi
tion as court crier was noted with
much satisfaction by bis many old
friends wbo attended court.
Messrs. II. J. Hopkins and B.

the work of erecting the mill nearly
to completion, and when finished will
cost the owners upwards of (4,000,
and will be one of the best equipped
mills in this part of the country. Tbe
new firm expect to be able to give
a fresh impetus to the business, and is
comprised of Messrs. M. C. Goes, H
J. Hopkins and B. Corwio, uuder tbe

By the act of June 13, 1887, tbe
governor is authorized to appoint one
pupil in each county who may enjoy a
free scholarship for two years at the
Pennsylvania Museum aod School of
Industrial Art at Philadelphia. The
legislature appropriated $20,000 to
this school, which is the only well es
tablished iostitute of the kind in tbe
United States. Instruction is given
n designing and weaving the various
textile fabrics aud other industrial
arts, and tho school now has about 200
pupils. Appointments have been
made io a number of counties but
none, so far at we are informed, iu
Venango, and there is therefore ao ap
parent opportunity for some young
man or woman to secure the benefits
of a valuable industrial education.
Blizzard. Tbe same will apply to
Forest county.
A terrible tragedy took place io
Bradford yesterday forenoon. George
A. Kimball rnshed into tbe National
Bank, flourished a revolver io the face
of the cashier, Mr. T. II. Tomlinsoo
aod demanded money. Being refused
be jumped over the counter, grabbed
a package of money containing over
(G00, and when the cashier tried to
intercept him, he fired a 38 cal. re
volver at him, the ball entering just
above the left hip and came out on
the opposite side. Tbe thief then
rushed out and down the street when
several parties pursued. Finding that
he was about to be taken be turned
and fired upon tbe nearest man, a
butcher named L. Blich, the ball en
tering the abdomen on tbe left side
and going diagonally through tbe
bowels, came out at tbe right of the
epme. Heing ttili further pursued
and finding escape impossible, he
placed tbe revolver to bit forehead
and fired, killing himself almost in
stantly. Tbe two wounded men were
io a critical condition at last accounts,
with only slight chances of recovery.
Some think that Kimball was insane.
"The Social Glass."
At tbe Skating Rink Wednesday
aod Thursday evenings of last week,
was produced by home talent the pop
alar temperance drama, "The Social
Glass." Tbe play portrays the old
story of fur tone, domestic happiness
and a prospective happy future, blight
ed and ruined as a result of the "in
nocent social glass." The 'chain - of
crimes, plottiogs, intrigue, debauchery,
murder and suicide, each very proper
ly follow io tbe train of character il
lustrations, while tragic, in contrast
with attractive tableauxs and select
music by tbe cornet band presented
tbe large and interested audience from
going out to get fresh air and "take a
smile" between tbe acts. Tbe general
teaching of the play wa elevating and
refined aud most certainly must bave
brought the blush to tbe face and
shame to the heart of the many present
whose own life in part at least was
pict d in panoramic clearness oo
the stage before them.
To individualize the character acting
is difficult. Two or three appeared
greater than amateurs. The sinister
expression and degradiog business of
Farley and Ilollis was io lively cod
trast with the womanly exhibition of
love, fidelity and bouor io Mrs. Thorn
ley ; the courage and independence of
Miss Neltleby, who "loved to make
folks happy;" tbe big manly heart of
Dr. Slater, and tbe philanthropy of
Iladley, while tbe side splitting tan
trums of stage-struck Brittle, frequent
ly kept back a tear. Mr. Thornley
was easy as a tippler and drunkard,
and Farley a natural landlord, whose
wife appeared to a disadvantage in
having given him, socially, his first
driok of wioe. Tbe teaching was el
evating and the harvest should be
abundant.

THE LUMBERMAN Is published lrt
the interest of its subscribers ; consequent
ly it is curiosity in modern trade Jour

makes it the best advertising medium in'
the world. A journal in which every oth

lustrated pull', is absolutely worthless to
the reader ; it is worse than useless, be-1
canse it is misleading. Tbe Lumberman
has information to sell at the rate or S4.00

gives more pages of reading matter, out.
aide of its advertising the full number

substantially all tbe lumber news, and the

to any lumberman who cares to keep post

pages contain more valuable information
than is givon in all the pages of many
lumber journals, so-called. Aa a matter
of fact, its advertising pages are of the nf
most value to all users of wood-working
machinery, as they form a complete cata
logue of the latest and best of all the
modern devices usea in lumuer uisuu imm
