Barnum is in search of the man who would not ac. cept a nomination for the Presidency of these United States no matter how hopeless the candidacy might be. Jake Sharp, Ihe king of the boodle aldermen of New. York city, will be tried in .May, the 11th of that month having been fixed by Judge Van Brunt for the beginning of the trial. Sharp may prepare himself forsentence about tho first of June. He will certainly join Jaehne, McQuade & Co. in Sing Sing, after the has done its duty. The attempt to connect Mr. Blaine with the Arthnr Richmond criticisms of public men, published in the North American Review, by charging the au thorship to Qail Hamilton, is a little rich. If it is done with the hope of destroying any of his influence with the people, it is clearly a mistake. Up to this time Arthur Richmond has said very little, if anything, to distress Republicans, and the distress of the Mugwump or Democrat ia not just now calculated to excite a very great deal of sympathy. The Inter-Stale Commission has started on a two weeks' tour of the South. Its members will combine business with pleasure. The com plaints against the law to which they will be compelled to listen will doubt less be plentifully seasoned with whiffs of the fragrant magnolia and jasmine, and their weary frames will be rejuve nated by the influence of the balmy air and genial sunshine. The path of the commission during this trip will cot be strewn entirely with thorns. The flowers of the field, as well as th 096 of rhetoric, will sweeten the air, and lighten the labors which the law imposes upon the fortunate commis sioners. Harrbtbury Telegraph. Accepting Cleveland's letter to the South Carolina committee as a decla ration of principle, it would seem that that he U neither a devotee at the ebrine of Jefferson, nor even a door keeper in the temple of Jackson, but is rather a worshipper at the tomb of the man whose ambition it was to de etroy the unity of the nation over which the Buffalo statesmen now pre sides. The Calhoun letter will cer tainly, not prove a popular card for the approaching campaign. The nation sacrificed many lives and much treas uro lo suppress a rebellion bred by Cal houa heresy, and Mr. Cleveland will he older than was Methusaleh before it accepts the South Carolinian's heresy for iru faitb. How it Looks Now. There have been times when the chief question with the Republican party was, whom ran we elect? The way matters are shaping now, it looks as if tho only question to be afrked, next year, will be whom do we want to elect? The recent discussion of Cleveland's candidacy by his own par ty, indicates plainly that his influence has materially weakened with the reg ular democrats. To this must be added, that the civil service reformers are likewise disheartened, and that the mugwump factioa have virtually aban doned biui. The party is put in the position of being forced to choose from one candidate, and he one of the weak est of the party. This so well appre ciated that intelligent democrats and mugwump leaders confess the appar ent hopelessness of the contest, as againt any reputable republican nom inee. On the contrary, the republi cans have a score of eminent men, any one of whom could be elected. The only question to be answered by them is, whom should we honor with a nom ination? It looks now, as if the au swer would be Blaine. His right to the place is hardly questioned, and it is very probable that all others will naturally stand aside and allow him to take the nomination, just as they would allow him to pick up his own hat if it had blown off, or his cane if he had dropped it, as something which belongs to him and to which other aspirants have no claim. If this disposition continues, we shall have the most harmonious convention and the most overwhelming election ever known in the country. It would be a proud thing for the United States if we could see the greatest of our cit zeos in the greatest of our offices. We have bad too many little fellows rat tling around in the presidential chair. Meadville Gazette. BRACE VP. Ath lophoros is . the only remedy for these dis eases that can stand such a test. A. L. Thomas, Cuba, N. Y., says : " My son, J . M. Thomas, had been suffering from rheumatism for several months. Athlopho ros relieved him of the pain, and reduced the swelling of the joints, and the lameness entirely disappeared. I have seen those having neuralgia cured by taking one dose." A. Eeard, Mt. Kisco, N. Y., snys: "I have been troubled for some time with sciatica and rheumntism, brought on by working in a damp place. I could find no remedy in medicine I was using, until I tried a bottle of Athlophoros, which gave, me immediate relief." Mrs. Alfred Thurston, 42 North Main Street, Wilkesbarre, Pa., says : " I am not troubled with rheumatism now, since using AthlophoroB. I believe, should it in any case fail to relieve and permanently cure, the cause would be that the directions were not faithfully followed." J. J. Savitz, Nazareth, Pa., says: "I pave two bottles of Athlophoros to my sister, and she has entirely recovered. She was afflicted with inflammatory rheumatism and St. Vitus' dance, and although we had two of the best doctors, she gradually grew worse. She would scream from pain night and day. I heartily recommend it.
