A Would-be Suicide.
Wednesday evening of last week
the town wsa throwsi into do little ex
citcmont bj the rtrport that a man had
attempted to commit suicide bj cut
ting his thn-aL A rata by ihe name
of B. H. Bowen, who lives ia Brad
ford, F-, parsed tbroogh the town
about 4 o'clock ia the afternoon. It
waa noticed that be acted strangely,
bu: as be disturbed no one be was not
interfered with. took the road
Ieadiug to Tjlersburg. .About fire
o'clock be was discovered at ''Gunael
Hill," about three miles from here, by
Jesse Carson. When ilr. Carson
came np to him he saw the snow cov
ered with blood, and the man's throat
and clothes saturated with it. Cobs:

The would-be suicide was disarmed,
placed npoa a watn and brought to
town; he was taken to Dr. Cbum'e
oiSca where his injuries were examined
and properly dressed. The locU)

inches, extending from the left side of
the neck under the ear to three fourths
of an inch beyond the centre of the
neck. The cut was very deep, ex
tending into the mouth near the base
of the tongue, and the neck was terri
bly lacerated. The deed waa accom
plished by the umj of the scs til binds
of a common pocket knife. Had be
cut a little deeper in the back part of
the iucisitm the jugular vein would
nave been severed, and death would
have quickly followed.
After hia wounds were properly
dressed he was taken to the Central
Hiuse, and bia wife noti5ei of the
affair by telegraph. Next m.irning an
answer came asking that Bowen be
brought to Bradford, which was done.
Sir. Can5eid accompanying him. Mr.
C reports that be found the man's
home ud surroundings to be very
pleasant. He setaed to be laboring
under the delusion that he was to be
hang and slated that he thought sui
cide preferable.
The Derriei mentions a novel fire
which took place last Saturday, as
fillaws. The r'g in question adjoins
the 400-aere tract owned and operated
by Agnew, Proper & Ha:gbt: "MH'er
