The following little extract from
tho Brook vi lie Republican of last
week may be a warning of some use
in these parts, at any rate it will do
no harm to look it over: Thursday
last, on the information of a lady re
siding in West Brookville, two little
gills were arrested and taken before
'.cquire Walker, charged with trespass,
they having gone into the garden of
the lady informing against them, and
taken of the grapes thero growing.
The chargo was sustained, and under
the recent act of the Legislature, the
Justice had but two alternatives left
him, impose the flue of So 00 as pro
vided h the law, or, in default of pay
ment, commit the parties to jail. The
fine was not paid and in consideration
of the lender year of tho accused,
Ihey were given in charge of Deputy
Slienir Wilson, who detained them
until their parents secured their ro
lese. This is the first case in our towu
under the new law, but in view of the
great atmoyauee experienced by many
of our citizens from the tiespassing of
their neighbor's children, it is a great
wonder that the protection of the law
is not invoked every day, there being
centainly great provocation iu many
instauces. The law was enacted for
the protection of citizens in the pos
sessiou of their property, is righteous
in its provisions, and we will bail the
auspicious moment when it is vigorous
ly executed, regardless of the person
ality of those'who become its victims.
Counterfeiters Captured Boss Buck
and his Gang.
The following special dispatch to
the Derrick from Pittsburgh explains
itself:
The United States secret service offi
cers raided a camp of 11 counterfei
ters in Clarion county yesterday, cap
turing seven of them, the others escap
ing into the woods Tho prisoners
were brought to this city and at a
preliminary hearing beforo United
States Commissioner McCandlass this
morning were held for court. The
prisoners are tho notorious Breton
Buck, his three sons, L. P. Whitmer
Edward Harmon and a man named
doner. It is believed that tho bal
ance of thn gang will be secured before
many days. These coinackers have
been plying their vocation quit success
fully iu Clarion, JefTersnu and Forest
counties. They have been engaged in
the manufacture of spurious silver dol
lars and had a thorough system of
placing the same iu circulation. The
case is one of tho biggest in the coun
terfeiting liue that has heen worked up
hereabouts for many years.

In August, 1878, O. A. Wood &
Co. commenced the manufacture, in
Philadelphia, of the now well-known
Philadelphia Singer Sewing Machines.
At first they only made ten machines
a week. Their business has steadily
increased, until now they are probably
the largest manufacturers of this style
of machice in the United States.
They do busiuess on a liberal and just
basis. They sell.a three-drawer, drop
leaf and cover machine for the low
price of twenty dollars, including all
the extra attachments, anJ warrant
them for three years. They offer to
send one to any responsible man or
woman, to bo tested iu their oivn house
two weeks before they pay one cent.
This is certainly a fair "proposition.
They have found this way of doing
busiuess more satisfactory than to do
as other companies do who charge for
ty to fifty dollars for machines, and
pay agents twenty dollars apiece to
sell tbem. We advise all in want of
a machine to send for circular and
testimonials. Address C. A. Wood &
