The premium list of the sixth
anuual fair of the Venango County
Agricultural Society, at Franklin, has
reached us. The fair will be held
Sept. 15, 16 and 17, and there are
o-er $2,500 in premiums offered
This society don't do thiogs by halves,
and its fairs are becoming more at
tractive each year. The only fault we
can find with the managers is that
they go outside of the county to get

Hon. Martin Williams, of Clar
ion county, exhibited last week a fire
extinguisher known as the Champion,
which works on nearly the same prin
eiple of the Babcock machine. On
Wednesday evening a bonfire of dry
goods boxes was built on the Ford lot
which he easily extinguished with the
small six-gallon apparatus. The fire
was re-kindled and thoroughly satu
ated with kerosene, and when under

fu ,ieadwttV he turned the, nozzle of
the 60 gallon machine on the flame
and had it thoroughly extinguished in
less than three minutes. The experi
ment was a success and showed off the
extinguisher to good advantage. As
our town has no means whatever of
fighting fire, wouldn't it seem like a
simple act of good jugdmeut on the

ment is now much more intelligible,
The "unicorn" is transformed into the
wild ox, "dragons" have become
"jackals," "the great whales" of Gen-
esis I. are generalized into "great sea
monsters," the "cockatrice" it the

and the "bitten" have given way to

due to the students of Assyriology,

for July, an unusually brilliant num
ber, eveu for it. There is a beautiful
steel-plate; a double-size colored fasb-
ion ; a double-size colored pattern in
embroidery; and about fifty other en-

Charley French is suffering from a
attack of rheumatism, tbe effects of
journey that he took recently.
If a stranger should happen to pass
through this region he would hardly
imagine that the Balltown district
