Peterson's Magazine for Decem
ber comes to us ahead of all others, a
perfect marvel of beauty. There are
more than a hundred pages of reading
matter; two superb steel-plates; a
colored pattern, costlier even than a
chromo; a colored fashion, double
size, printed from steel; and more
than half a hundred wood-cuts of
fashions, work-table patterns, etc., etc.
The stories arc exeeptionully good:

very best. The price is but Two Dol

clubs, it is cheaper still. Address

L. M. Thornhill, a member of
Waverly Lodge, 75, A. O. U. W.,
Monongahela City, Pa. died iu Tidi
oute of consumption, last Sunday
night. Since 1872 Mr. T., had been
a member of the Order, oud for the
last five years an invalid, during
which time Lis assessments and dues
have been kept up by bis lodge. On
being notified of bis death his lodge
sent Bros. M. W. Wolf aud Shreckon-
gost to attend the funeral. At Tidi
oute thry were met by the brothers of
Tidioute lodge, 204. The funeral was
held Tuesday afternoon, Tidioute
lodge turning out and conducting the
funeral services. Now, here is a home
example of the benefits of this class
of insurance for working nion. The
widow of Mr. Thornhill finds herself
provided with two thouEaud dollars,
and as the is poor, the money comes
doubly acceptable. During tho entire
nine years of her husband's member
ship it bus probably cost not to ex
ceed one hundred aad eighty dollars
in assessments and lodge dues. We
Bpeak confidently when we say that
no man of family has a tight to re
ject or neglect to avail himself of this
class of insurance. Why don't you
join th order, ray fellow workmen?
At tho requeet of Waverly lodge,
Drs. Kemble and Diefendorf made u
pod mortem examination, finding as
above announced. Mrs. Thoinhill is

Blow-Out of the Unterrified.
The Democrats had what we
presume they call a blow-out lait night,
and, oh dearl such a roariu' time as
they did have. Four barrels of nasty,
stinking crude oil, some that bad
evidently stood forages perhaps since
Buchanan's timo, were set ofT, and
such awful illumination as they did
makel A half dozen white beans would
have made a better show. The crowd
consisted of about two dozen boys
ranging in age from eight to fifteen
years, somo of whom had been fur
niched with enough bug-juice to make
them quite noisy. There were perhaps
five Democrats in the crowd, who stood
around with bands in their pockets
shivering like one nwakeuiog from a
24 year's sleep. It was suggested by
some one that a lantern be bung
around each bonfire (?) to keep teams
from running over them. This would
undoubtedly have been done had there
been much travel. The canon was
fired four or five times and sounded
about as loud as the bursting of a
paper bag. It is said on good authority,
althorigh denied by equally as good,
that a proccssiou was had, and that it
consisted of a stuffed coon pelt, a
starved rooster, and some other dried
up thing which nobody could name.
The procession was no small affair for
it took several hours to pass a certain
place the "place" was where the bug
juice was kept, and some didn't get
past till near morning. The company
must have been too much for the
rooster's stomach, for he finally tore
himself away and hid. Altogether,
for a demonstration that has been 24
years in preparation, it was certainly
the most sickening affair that has ever
taken place here, and the "great
unwashed" no doubt feel heartily
ashamed of their effort.
