Tui3 rear's floods will frighten
thousands of immigrants from settling
ia th Missipjippi Valley, who would
have otherwise built their homes there.
Tttu army appropriation bill now
before Congress fixes the age when an
officer shall be placed on the retired
list at sixty five year. It seems that
tmwiy officers are not pleased with this,
but if it is the wisdom and the will of
Congress to enact this law, it will be
obayed.

containing 120,000 names was sent
froDuChicago asking for the pardon of
Sergeant Mason. Ihere is great in

and it is not at all unlikely that be
will be pardoned before mauy clays.

awl tired of the Guiteau case, as he
professes to be, and it is probably true
also whatever is done further in the
matter will have to be done by him

anything to du with the ca9e. Even
if he should find bis business at Chic

render his abandonment of the case
absolutely imperative, it would occa

Democratic elements in Pennsyl
vania are now in a condition some
thing like many of the il wells iu the
Bradforu region, namely, needing
pumping to keep them in running
rder. There is now a wouderful
amount of pumping being done in
Democratic circles iu all parts of the
State. The leaders of that party in
all parts of tho State are in a fearful
condition of uurest : they are pumping
away at dry holes, traveling hither
and thither, indulging in conference,
pow-wows and "arrangeintnts," all of
which betoken the exhaustsd condi
tion of area and the failure of their in
vestments. Harruburg Telegraph.
