: The Republican victory in Pcnnsyl
Vania is complete. General Baily's
plurality will be from 5,000 to 7,000.
ITbis may not seem very large, but
when it ia taken into consideration
svhat he hail to contend with it is
HEW YORK REPUBLICAN.
.
I Ibe latest indications are tbat the
Republicans have carried the Slate,
knd have elected a majority in the
Legislature, which is fully as well if
pot better than they expected to do.
They Iia big odds against thetu.

I THANKSGIVING.
President's Proclamation.
f Washington, November 7. The
following proclamation was issued
from the department of State to-day :
SBy the President of the United (Ltates
of America A Proclamation :
It has long been the pious custom
ff our people, with the closing of the
year, to look back upon the blessings
prought to them in changing the
pourssoflhe eeasons, and to -return
polemn thanksgiving to tho AU-Giv;
d Source from whom they flow; and
hkhongh at this period, when the fall
ing leaf admonishes us that the time
pf our sacred doty is at haDd, our
iiation still lies in the shadow of a
great bereavement and the mourning
Mhicli has filled our hearts, still finds
-tfowful expression toward I he
liod before w.rrj we but lately bowed
la gtief and 6upplicatioi., vet the
countless benefits which have elibwered
upon us during the past twelve
months call Lr our fervent gratitude
lind make it fitting that we should
r"joicfl with thankfulness that the
Lord ia His infinite mercy has most
pigDally favoreJ our country and our
people Poace without and prosperity
within have beeu vouchsafed to us.
Wo pestilence has visited our thores.
The abundant privileges of freedom
which our fathers left us in their wis
dom are still our increasing heritage,
nndifin parts of cur vast domain
some affliction has visited our breth
ren In their forest horses, yet even in
this calamity has been tempered and
in a manner sanctified by the gener.
ous compassion for the sufferers which
has been called forth throughout our
land. For all these things it is meet
that the voice of the nation should go
yp to God in devout homage,
i Wherefore I, Chester A. Arthur,
President of the United States, do
recommend that all the people observe
Thursday, the 24th day of November
instant, as the day of national thanks
piving and prayer by ceasing, so for
tin may be, i'roiu their secular labors,
bud meeting in their several places of
worship, llierq to join in ascribing
liouor and prai-:e to Almighty God,
jvhose goodness has be2u so mauifot
jn our history, and in our lives, and
dfrriug earnest prayers that his
bounties, may continue to us and our
child leu.
; In witness whereof, I have hereunto

"THAT SAME OLD COON!'
Everything Is Lovely and
THE ROOSTER CROWS LUSTILY!
RESULT IN FOREST COUNTY.
The result of Tuesday's elections in
Forest County was grand ! Maguifi
cent 1 The matchless ticket put up by
the Republicans swept tho board from
top to bottom, just as we said as it
would. The Republicans have rea
son to jubilate and feel exceeding joy
ful over so magnificent and complete
a victory, after the almost superhu
man efforts put forth by the Green
backers to defer.t them. The noble
band of Republicans in every portion
of the county did nobly indeed, and
they have their reward in u most com
plete and sweeping victory. They
can rest well after eucIi a noble, ffflrt.
We might display our paper with in
numerable cuts and illustrations And
i on at a terrible rate over the result,
but what's the use? Tho election
table giving tLe official returns is suf
ficient. That's as good a picture as
the Republicans of Forest County
want to look at, and they will take
more satisfaction in scunuiug that
than all we could cay or do. The lie
publicans got all the law allowed
them, and left what little there was
cA-er to be devided by the Democrats
and Greenbackers ; the latter secured
the persimmon one commissioner,
one auditor and one jury commission
er. One of the most satisfactory feat
ures of the election is the magnificent
triumph of Mr. Ledebur, and his com
plete vindication by his party, after
tho terrible ifLrt mado by the Com
monwealth to defeat him with the
flimsy and sneaking $25 dodge. It
was "anything to beat Ledebur" with
the G. 13., but "the Republicans,
knowing he had beeu a faithful officer,
were ready and willing to retain him
for the next three years. Now let us
have a rest for a season. We have
elected a splendid ticket throughout,
and the citizens of Forest County can
rest easy in tho assurance that their
best interests will be looked after
(:!.' Tilly, Ijurrah for our side!
