-Speaking of railroad matters tbe
Derrick has ihe following : "Another
rumor is that the Allegheny Valley is
secking'an eutlet north from its pres
ent terminus at Oil City. There is
bad feeliog between the Allegheny
Valley aud tho Bufialo, Pittsburgh &
Western, so that the former is seeking
to make some connection with the
Dunkirk & Warren which would give
it a throutrh line to tbe lakes. One of
tho proposed routes is up the Alle
gheny river to Irvineton on tho Tio
nesta side ; another is by the old Pit
hole road across tbe bills to Grand
Valley ; and still another from Frank

By referring to our Almanac we
find an eclipse of the moon total
set down for June 11 and 12, visible
to North and South America aud parts
of Africa and Australia. In .the lon
gitude of Buffalo the eclipse begins 53
minutes past 11, becoming total 57
minutes past 12 ; the total eclipse
coda 10 minutes past 2 Sunday morn
ing, the moon passing eniiroy out of
the shadow 21 minutes past 3. Re
member that, this is a very important
item in the phe nomena of nature, it
being proof of the spherical form of tbe
earth. The diameter of the shadow
through which the moon passe is a
little more than 1J times as great as
the diameter of the roooD. one of the
causes of tho length of the total
eclipse.
